Detroit-based rapper Proof's son, Nasaan, has publicly apologized to fellow rapper Cordae for dissing him in 2020. The musician also clarified that he does not have any relationship with Eminem.
In 2020, Nasaan released a freestyle version of Eminem's popular 2002 track, Without Me. The rapper took a dig at Cordae through the lyrics, which said:
“My shape isn't in tip top? Then who saving hip hop? (YBN Cordae?)/Bi*ch you sound stupid as f*ck’ as a diss towards Cordae."
In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) on October 4, 2024, Proof's son publicly apologized to Cordae for his diss. He also admitted to being jealous of Cordae's relationship with Eminem. He said:
“I apologize to the Cordae fellow. I’m growing & realize I started trolling you out of envy. Was gonna put all this in a song but rhyming s*it with yo name is difficult n***a. He was getting the love from Marshall that I had always wanted but..."
The rapper then went on to elaborate on why he trolled Cordae, explaining that he was jealous of the relationship the latter shared with Eminem. He added in one of his follow-up posts that he does not share any relationship with Eminem.
"Yes there is no relationship. I have none with him. but who cares he doesn’t owe me that, he was my fathers friend not MINE. he took care of my family financially for years!!! off GP. he’s great in my book! i’m 26 now. i accepted ill never get the relationship i wanted with him," he explained.
Eminem and Nasaan's father, Proof, grew up together in Detroit. Proof was a member of D12 and also a close confidante of the Slim Shady rapper. Nasaan revealed in his series of posts that he wanted to share a friendship with Eminem, much like his father did.
It is worth noting that Cordae has received substantial support from Em in his career, as they have appeared in several tracks together. The duo featured together in Parables (Remix), a revamped version of Em's Killer, and the track Doomsday.
"I never quite understood it" - Nasaan explains he was upset with Eminem for supporting Cordae over him
In his series of posts on X dated October 4, Nasaan put forward multiple grievances towards his father's friend, Eminem. The rapper explained that he never understood why the Detroit native chose to support Cordae over him. He wrote:
"I felt like i was a way more talented rapper sitting in front of his face yet he chose him [Cordae] to champion. (granted i was 19) but i never quite understood it. i’m older & more mature now so i internalize all this a lot differently now."
The rapper explained that he wanted to build an uncle-like bond with Eminem as the latter was his father Proof's childhood friend. He continued:
"Since a teenager I kind of just wanted to make Em & his team proud & build this uncle like bond with them where I can, come around, ask for advice wherever need be, etc and it just never got to that point 😒and in retrospect I guess that frustrated me and made me jealous."
Nasaan further elaborated on why he decided to apologize to Cordae for dissing him four years ago, claiming that he felt he owed the rapper an apology for trolling "the sh*t out of him 3 years straight."
He also shared that he is not comfortable with "lying" in his interviews about having a relationship with Eminem. Finally, the rapper ended his stance by sharing that he's happy with the "distant love" he shares with Eminem.
"The distant love we have for one another is more than enough for me 🫶 thank you for everything Marshall and sorry again Cordae. love you guys," he wrote.
Earlier this year in May, Nasaan took to X to playfully warn Eminem when the Slim Shady rapper chose to drop a single from his latest album on the same day as his new release, Error 404.
Eminem's latest album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce), was eventually released on July 12, 2024, although the rapper's first single from the album, Houdini, dropped on May 31, 2024.
