50 Cent recently revealed why he stopped rapping, during an interview with Earn Your Leisure, which Billboard quoted in its October 2 feature. The American rapper, producer, and TV executive explained that the current rap music being dumbed down is why he's not enthusiastic about dropping new tunes. He explained:

"If you listen to the music that's out right now, I have to tap into my stupid. I have to tap into the stupid side of me to write the right thing when it comes time to write the music."

50 Cent has made a strong name for himself in the rap scene since his debut album, Get Rich or Die Tryin', released in 2003. His career exploded, and more albums came, including The Massacre in 2005 and Curtis in 2007.

However, the rapper's last release was Animal Ambition back in 2014, and since then, he's ventured into projects outside of the music world. But despite not releasing albums in about a decade, his Best Of compilation is still on the UK albums chart, per Forbes.

He did mention working on new music with Dr. Dre during his Big Boy TV appearance in January 2023. He again teased "some New Heat coming" from him and Dr. Dre in a February 19 Instagram post where he greeted the latter for his birthday.

50 Cent said he can "impact things in a bigger way" outside of writing music

Elsewhere in his Earn Your Leisure interview, still quoted by Billboard, 50 Cent explained that having to "tap into the stupid" is why he's not keen on releasing new music and why he's found different ventures outside the music scene. He explained:

"That is why I haven't created as much content as I was creating in the past and I started going towards the film production and development of these projects. Because I can impact things in a bigger way through that."

The rapper and business mogul took Tyler Perry's example as someone who has "been there all by himself." He founded G-Unit Films and Television in 2003 and has executive-produced numerous TV shows like Power Confidential, BMF, and Power Book.

He also appeared in several shows and films over the years, including Den of Thieves, Escape Plan 2, Escape Plan: The Extractors, Power, and Boneyard.

Moreover, 50 Cent inked a multi-project deal with Fox in February 2023, which includes producing a documentary about allegations made against Diddy called Diddy Do It. Netflix won the bidding war for its distribution, and the production is reportedly ongoing, with Alexandria Stapleton directing.

The documentary, which doesn't have a release date or details about how many parts it will include yet, will center around Diddy's s*xual and physical abuse allegations, including the recent federal charges he's facing.
