Ava Max recently went down the trenches to react to fans' criticisms when an X account called 2000s posted a snippet of her singing a part of her upcoming single musical number. Suspected to be titled Oh God or Crack, the single will drop on August 2024 and will be a part of Max's third studio album, popularly called AM3 by her fans (since the name hasn't been revealed yet).
On July 4, 2024, an X handle called @PopCulture2000s posted a snippet from her unreleased musical number where she sings wearing a black dress and black sunglasses in a retro ambiance.
"I got a sixth sense when it comes to a b**ch/You're a demon in a jean skirt, blowin' a kiss/Oh, God/Oh, God," sings Max.
Like all celebrity artists, the comment section was interspersed with lovers and skeptics of her work. One account asked why all her songs 'sound the same' in the comment section, and many people agreed with them. However, Max was quick to shut them down and transferred the blame onto their ears.
"Yeah it’s a defect in the ear…," commented Max.
The singer further substantiated her first comment by alleging that the fellow netizen must have a 'hearing problem.'
"I think you have a hearing problem…," accused the singer.
In another X post, Max shared a photo of her wearing a velvety black dress with an anonymous hand strangling her. Her new song plays in the background. The singer/songwriter used this post to reply to her critics.
When a certain X handle commenting under @MrPopOfficial's post asked about the song that was sampled by Ava to be used in her upcoming track, she replied:
"Your Mom"
The Million Dollar Baby singer's escapades on X have gotten substantial attention from her fans. While some are enjoying the interactions, others are considering the move to be beneath the singer.
Ava Max responds to sampling accusations, saying that she does it 'tastefully'
In an April 2024 interview with ETalk CTV, Ava Max opened up about her reputation as the 'Queen of Samples.' She claimed that other artists do it quite frequently and have more samples than her.
"It’s actually interesting as I know a lot of artists who do samples, but they always poke at me about the samples. Like if you look at some other people’s discographies, you’re like woah! They have way more samples than Ava. But I think the internet likes to poke at Ava Max. Cause not every song is a sample. And also, when I do a sample, I do it tastefully," explained Ava Max.
Ava Max has often allegedly sampled chartbusters from the 1990s and other retro songs and incorporated elements into her work. For her alleged sampling of previous songs, she is often called the 'Queen of Sampling' by her fans.
One of her most famous alleged sampling works is her 2024 song Whatever, which is heavily inspired by Shakira's iconic 2001 song Whenever Wherever. Although the lyrics and theme of both the songs are different, fans of both singers have pointed out several similarities between the tune and choruses of both the songs.
Her other alleged sampling works include her 2018 song Let It Be Me. Immediately after its release, fans online spotted similarities between Max's song and Suzanne Vega's Tom's Dinner. In 2023, Max released Million Dollar Baby as a part of her second studio album, Diamonds and Dancefloors. While the song was well-received, it was immediately compared to LeAnne Rimes' 2000 classic Can't Fight the Moonlight.
Despite the accusations, Ava Max has received several accolades and awards throughout her career. In her career, Max has received an Attitude Award, one iHeartRadio Titanium Award, an MTV Europe Music Award, a TopHit Music Award, one Swiss Music Award, and four Los 40 Music Awards.
The 20-year-old singer was also named in the list of 30 Under 30 by Forbes in 2021.
