The singer sported a yellow-and-black checkered ensemble for the VMAs on September 12. Fans online pointed out how similar it was to The Traitors actor's outfits in the Peacock reality show.
The actor joked on the Emmys red carpet on Sunday, September 15, while talking to Entertainment Weekly, saying, "B*tch stole my look." But all jokes aside, Cumming thought the comparison was hilarious. He said:
"I think it's hilarious that so many people sort of said, 'Taylor Swift looked like Alan Cumming,' which is a sentence I never thought I would hear."

Alan Cumming re-posted a meme comparing Taylor Swift and his The Traitors outfit
After side-by-side photos of Taylor Swift's VMAs ensemble and Alan Cumming's The Traitors look circulated online, the actor joined in on the trend. He re-posted a meme by @sobaditsgoodwithryanbailey comparing the Grammy-winning singer's tartan outfit to his checkered costumes in the reality series on his Instagram on September 12.
In the original post, Ryan Bailey captioned it with, "Taylor looks like she's coming for Alan Cumming's job! "Are you faithful or are you a traitor....or ready for it?" Meanwhile, in Cumming's post, he kept it simple with "Ahem, @taylorswift."
When he was asked by EW if any of the Shake It Off singer's over 280 million fans followed him online after memes about their similar outfits circulated online, Cumminh wasn't sure about it. He referred to the meme he re-posted on social media, saying:
"I just did an Instagram post and I went, 'Ahem, Taylor Swift,' so maybe I lost them."
Cumming may think that he lost Swift's fans, but both he and the singer went home with major awards over the last week. Taylor Swift picked up seven Moon Man trophies at the MTV VMAs, including the coveted Video of the Year award for his Fortnight music video with Post Malone and the Artist of the Year trophy.
As for Alan Cumming, he ended RuPaul's eight-year winning streak after bagging the Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program at the Emmys on Saturday. The award was for Cumming's stint as the host for the second season of The Traitors, where he wowed the audience with dramatic speeches and fabulous costumes.
He will be returning to host the third season of the Peacock reality show, which will cast more "larger-than-life personalities," including Britney Spears' ex-husband Sam Asghari, Selling Sunset star Chrishell Stause, and the controversial Vanderpump Rules star Tom Sandoval.
