Nicki Minaj recently took to Twitter and shared her response after Eve mentioned her in her newly released memoir, Who’s That Girl. In the book, Eve began by talking about the third instalment of Barbershop, and how Nicki Minaj “earned” her respect.
As many noticed Nicki Minaj’s mention in Eve’s memoir, the Pink Friday singer was also prompt to share her heartwarming response to Eve’s praises.
Posting on X, Nicki Minaj said:
“Dear Eve, The various things you’ve shared recently, are groundbreaking (in my opinion) for so many reasons. First, thank you. The level of grace; the level of emotional & spiritual maturity it takes to be this vulnerable & transparent is a sign of TRUE peace, happiness, fulfilment, & mastery of self. Self-reflection @ its height. I always say that I think accountability is the sexiest trait a person can have.”
Nicki Minaj continued by stating how nervous she was every time she came to the set, as she thought that Eve always “looked like a pro.” In her post, she spoke about women feeling “pressure to compete,” and also confessed that at first, she thought that Eve did not even like her. The rapper wrote:
“I remember telling a friend of mine that I didn’t think you liked me after our first day on set together. But you know something crazy? I swear. I KNEW that YOU could tell deep down inside that I really liked YOU.”
For the unversed, Nicki Minaj and Eve starred together in Barbershop: The Next Cut which was the sequel to the 2004’s Barbershop 2: Back in Business and the first Barbershop. The action comedy was released in 2016 and also starred Regina Hall, Anthony Anderson, Tyga, Deon Cole, Common and even Lamorne Morris.
“I thought I was going to resent her, and really all I felt was compassion”: Eve’s statement about Nicki Minaj in her memoir explored as the rappers praise each other
Eve’s memoir, Who’s That Girl has left the world of social media, and her fans are all excited. As the memoir was released on September 17, 2024, many noticed how the rapper appreciated Nicki Minaj and showered praises on her. As the two starred together in the third instalment of Barbershop, Eve wrote how she enrolled in therapy as soon as she got to know that Minaj had landed a role in the movie.
Eve wrote:
“I’ve lived through what happens when women project their own insecurities onto other women. It happened at the start of my career and continued in waves as my fame grew. I wasn’t going to be that woman to someone else, but in order to do that, I had to physically and mentally prepare myself. Nicki and I were actually fine on set. We got along well and shot our 1scenes together with no problems.”
She wrote how it was nothing like she had expected, although she had prepared herself for it from the start. Eve spoke about how Nicki Minaj gained her respect during the filming process of the film, as she stated:
“I’d see her writing songs on her bus in between takes, hurrying off set to go hit some show dates over the weekend and then come right back on set for these twelve-to-sixteen-hour shoots, all while trying to hold together her personal life and her relationship. It was at that moment that I didn’t envy her, and I kind of wanted to give her a hug."
Claiming how she thought that she was going to “resent her,” Eve claimed:
“I thought I was going to resent her, and really all I felt was compassion. I remembered being that person, the girl who felt like she had to do it all. The girl who was pressured to do it all, because it was all eyes on her. Instead of feeling insecure around Nicki, I started to sympathize with her”
In her memoir, Eve also talks about her struggles in hip-hop and Hollywood, and how her mental health deteriorated due to various things in her life. Furthermore, she also touched on other topics related to fertility issues, and motherhood, and how she found the balance in her personal life as a wife and mother, while being a successful rapper.
The memoir is available on Amazon, for $20.99, whereas the Kindle edition can be purchased for $14.99.
