Popular rapper JT recently spoke to Complex and opened up about parting ways with City Girls. In an interview published on August 9, 2024, JT spoke about her solo career, and how the hip-hop duo thought at the time that it would be better to pursue solo careers.

Talking about how she and Yung Miami, both thought it would make “sense,” she said:

“I think it made sense for both of us. I really feel like it just made sense for us and it was no hard feelings. I'm like Tina Turner, I’m still a City Girl. I need my name. That's the biggest thing about me, I can't ever get away from being a City Girl. A person going to call me that no matter where I'm at.”

She continued:

“It is just like “JT from the City Girls.” But I feel like it just made so much sense for both of us in the direction that we was going and things that we were focusing on. It wasn't no hard feelings about it, we saw it coming.”

Yung Miami aka Caresha and JT aka Jatavia Shakara Johnson formed City Girls in 2017. Together, the duo produced and dropped many hit albums like Girl Code, City on Lock, and RAW.

However, in April 2024, the duo claimed that they started to drift apart, due to which they announced that they would now be pursuing their solo careers.

“I am not trying to beat myself because I am the City Girls”- JT talks about feeling pressure to match the City Girls impact

Fans of the hip-hop duo, City Girls were left divided when they first got to know about the tension between JT and Yung Miami in April 2024, which led to the duo deciding to focus on their individual careers.

Claiming that the decision was mutual, and with no hard feelings, JT was asked in the Complex interview if she ever felt pressurized to match the City Girls' impact. In reply, she said:

“I'm just taking it one day at a time. I am not trying to beat myself because I am the City Girls. I am a part of the City Girls. That's not my goal. I'm trying to just be me and create new moments and new memories and be myself."

She further added:

"And when I do it and when I put my album out, it’s not meant to be received by people who don't want to receive it. It's just me being me.”

On the other hand, Caresha AKA Yung Miami from City Girls also spoke up about the hip-hop duo deciding to part ways. She stated in her podcast, Caresha Please, aired on August 8, 2024:

“I’m the type of person where if we feel some type of way, we can hash this s**t out behind closed doors. You can call my phone. We can text each other. We can cuss each other out, but I feel like once it goes to the internet, you are trying to get people to pick a side.”

On the other hand, Yung Miami also released two singles after parting from the group, namely, CFWM and 50/50.
