American rappers Gunna and Young Thug have been good friends through thick and thin. In 2022, the duo was arrested as a part of a 56-count RICO case. While the former was released the same year, Young Thug is still in jail with an ongoing trial.
It was Young Thug’s 33rd birthday on August 16 and his friend posted pictures of them on his Instagram story. In the first picture, the two are seen holding a giant snake while the second picture is from a dinner party.
Soon after his post went viral, netizens reacted to it with a variety of comments. Most X users seemed happy to see the bond the two rappers shared. However, others appeared surprised to see the post.
“i thought they not on good terms. Smh”, one X user wrote.
“Doesn’t he hate gunna?”, one person reacted.
“i’m so glad they cool again”, another user reacted.
Some users wished Young Thug on his birthday while others admired the love that the Drip Season 3 artist had for the rapper.
“Set that man free to go do what he does best… BIRTHDAY BLESSINGS YT”, another netizen reacted.
“Gunna showing love to Thugger on his big day—some bonds are unbreakable”, a user commented.
“Maybe there’s more to the story than what the public has assumed”, commented one netizen.
Alluding to their bond as brotherly, some netizens reacted by stating how the rapper has been holding on to their relationship despite the ups and downs.
“Brothers love”, wrote another X user.
“The hate gunna receive is the hate Woody should have gotten”, another person reacted.
Time and again, the FukUmean singer has voiced for Young Thug’s release on social media platforms and during his shows. Young Thug’s father Jeffery Williams Sr. was also featured in one of Gunna's music videos One Of Wun, released last month.
The YSL RICO trial had a great effect on Gunna’s career
In 2022, the two rappers along with others were indicted over allegations that their YSL record label did not stand for what it was. Although the label was called Young Stoner Life, it was alleged that it stood for Young Slime Life. The defendants were booked under Georgia’s RICO law.
In December 2022, Gunna was released after he accepted a plea deal. In April 2023, he spoke to XXL, about the effect the case had on his music career.
“It did a lot. It had a real big effect on my career. As far as like shows, schedules, impact of like everything we had planned for rollouts, for albums, it had a lot of effect on that just because everything being so high-profile”, he said.
After his release, he was accused of snitching on his co-defendants. However, he denied all those claims. So far as the trial is concerned, it seems unlikely that it will slow down for Young Thug soon.
