In a surprising twist of events, the internet erupted in reactions after King Von's nephew was spotted socializing with rapper Gunna, referring to him as "Uncle."
On October 29, 2024, Grand Babii took to his Instagram account and shared a picture of himself and Gunna, who is resting his arm on Babii's shoulder, and the duo posed for the photo. In the caption, Babii called Gunna "uncle" —
"Uncle gunna event today @gunna 💙🅿️," Babii captioned.
This unexpected friendship has started many discussions among fans of both artists on X. Many suggested that they thought King Von did not like "rats", referring to Gunna who is friends with Lil Durk. The latter had been incarcerated for an alleged murder case of King Von.
"I thought Von hated rats," one wrote.
Many users on X shared humorous comments and memes, suggesting that this connection reflects a “real love” between the artists —
"real love right there," one commented.
"The family tree got a little more interesting 😂," another commented.
"Lmfao if Von was here," a netizen commented.
However, some users on X noted that there is no harm in using the term "uncle," pointing out that given Grand Babii's young age, it would be natural for him to refer to someone of Gunna's generation as “uncle” —
"Regardless of the situation he looks at gunna as his uncle I can respect it I swear," one commented.
"When I was a kid too, I would call anybody Unc," a netizen commented.
"Should he call him daddy? 😕," another wrote.
As conversations continue to unfold, this lighthearted moment has momentarily shifted attention from the gravity surrounding King Von's murder case and the recent arrest of Lil Durk’s associate in connection to the alleged murder.
Gunna, however, has yet to comment on the ongoing online discourse.
Lil Durk arrested in connection with King Von's alleged murder case
According to NPR, on October 24, 2024, Lil Durk was taken into custody near Miami International Airport on federal charges. Authorities alleged that he financed an attempted retaliatory attack in 2022 targeting rapper Quando Rondo at a Los Angeles gas station, a shooting incident that ultimately claimed the life of Rondo's cousin.
Moreover, according to Variety, alongside Lil Durk, five additional associates from his Only The Family group, made by Durk, in 2010, were also detained. The individuals were identified as Kavon London Grant, Deandre Dontrell Wilson, Keith Jones, David Brian Lindsey, and Asa Houston.
Martin Estrada, the United States Attorney for Los Angeles, provided a detailed account of the shooting in an official statement, indicating that the incident took place at a gas station —
"The shooting occurred in the open, at a gas station at a busy intersection, endangering many others in the area. Violent gun crime of this sort is devastating to our community and we will have zero-tolerance for those who perpetrate such callous acts of violence," Estrada said.
The Corcoran's affidavit and other federal court records mentioned by NPR suggested that the incident stemmed from an altercation between King Von and members of rapper Quando Rondo's entourage, reportedly over personal disputes.
The confrontation escalated into a physical fight, which was then followed by gunfire. The affidavit further alleged that Lil Durk asked one of his associates to book a flight for him and not use his name.
As reported by Variety, each of Durk's five associates faces charges of conspiracy and using interstate resources to commit murder-for-hire, which led to a fatality.
Additional charges include the use, carrying, and discharge of firearms and machine guns, as well as possession of these weapons, in connection to a violent crime resulting in death.
Of the five associates involving in King Von's alleged murder case, Jones and Houston had hearings scheduled in Chicago on Monday.
Grant, Wilson, and Lindsey waived their right to a hearing and will be transferred to Los Angeles, as per New York Post.
According to NPR, Lil Durk is currently in custody and awaiting trial.
