In a video clip of Akademiks' stream uploaded to X on Thursday, December 26, DJ Akademiks talked about Jay-Z being "too powerful," and claimed he didn't want to be on anybody's team.
While he stood by his earlier stance - about Drake reportedly being a greater artist than Jay-Z - he admitted that something weird was happening in the rap industry in recent years. Akademiks said about the Roc Nation founder:
"I've been saying Jay's a snake from day 1. I like him, though. He's a good businessman."
The DJ then called Jay-Z "petty," alleging that he had secretly been squabbling with Drake for a long time. He continued:
"Jay done played the smartest game, and here's a funny thing. Jay ain't never been the hottest artist any f**king year of his f**king career, that's the fact."
DJ Akademiks went on to say that Jay-Z was allegedly attempting to remind Drake, who has been the top artist for years, of his standing in the industry. He suggested that Jay-Z was using Kendrick Lamar to provoke a rivalry between the two rappers. He added that now that K-Dot was gaining prominence as a celebrated rapper, Jay-Z allegedly might plot to bring him down as well.
DJ Akademiks compared Jay-Z to Thanos from The Avengers
Elsewhere in the video, DJ Akademiks added that most of the feuds going on in the rap world "ain't about sh*t." According to him:
"The smartest ni**as in the game erealize that sometimes you gotta wait a ni**a's wave out."
The DJ then used the example of Jay-Z allegedly waiting out 50 Cent, claiming that the Brooklyn's Finest rapper had recently been waiting out Drake.
He suggested that it was Jay-Z who allegedly decided Kendrick Lamar would headline the upcoming Superbowl Halftime in February 2025 instead of Drake, describing it as an "underhanded sh*t."
Then, taking the example of Nicki Minaj, the DJ believed that Atlantic Records was allegedly signing other artists to get her out of pay. According to Akademiks, the Bang Bang rapper reportedly knew about it but kept beefing with Cardi B instead of going after the label.
In his opinion, Drake was now on the right path. Instead of continuing to diss Kendrick Lamar, the One Dance rapper decided to go after Universal Music Group (UMG) by filing a petition against them.
DJ Akademiks then compared Jay-Z to Marvel's Thanos, saying:
"I'm telling you the game plan... why the hell y'all finna go to war with the n***a I'm telling you y'all can't beat. That's Thanos, and y'all don't got no infinity stones nor avengers. F**k is y'all about to do?"
Drake accused UMG and Spotify of launching a campaign to manipulate streaming services in order to make Kendrick Lamar's Not Like Us more popular in his petition.
DJ Akademiks issued Jay-Z an apology last week
The X video comes nearly a week after DJ Akademiks issued a public apology to Jay-Z and his record label, Roc Nation. Per HotNewsHipHop, the DJ said in his video last Thursday that the So Ghetto rapper and Roc Nation were too powerful to critique, adding:
"This is why, I'm telling you, I want no smoke with Roc Nation and I issue a formal apology... Jay-Z, I want to be on your team. I wanna be in the camp of the Roc Nation."
The streamer also turned his attention to Tory Lanez in the video, telling him that he was on his own when it came to publicly insulting the Otis rapper.
Tory Lanez is currently serving a prison sentence after being convicted of the felony charges of assault with a semi-automatic firearm for the 2020 incident when he shot Megan Thee Stallion in the foot.
