Charli XCX recently revealed that she would be taking a hiatus from making music for "quite a while" to focus on acting. The pop star shared her plans for the future and her career in an interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music, published on YouTube on Wednesday, October 9.
After chatting about possible future records, Charli XCX said that she wouldn't be releasing any new music anytime soon, saying:
"Yeah, I think it's probably like no music for a while. Like, you know...like quite a while. And also just...I want to act now. So, I'm more...I'm there. I'm already there, thinking about that stuff a little bit more."
The Brat singer has dabbled in acting, and she's been open about exploring the movie scene. She was announced to star in the cult 70s horror Faces of Death in early 2023 alongside Barbie Ferreira and Dacre Montgomery. The horror feature by Daniel Goldhaber is currently in post-production.
Besides Faces of Death, the pop star's upcoming screen credits include three other movies and a guest-starring role in a comedy series. She is slated to play Rosa in the fantasy romance 100 Nights Hero, which also stars Nicholas Galitzine, and will join the cast of I Want Your S*x with Olivia Wilde and the Polish feature Erupcja.
Charli XCX is an "excellent actress," says filmmaker Pete Ohs
Charli XCX may have been venturing into the acting scene recently, but she's been already receiving praise from her co-workers. Pete Ohs, whose credits include Everything Beautiful is Far Away and Jethica will direct one of the pop star's upcoming films, Erupcja, which is Polish for "eruption."
During an interview with Variety on October 7 about the forthcoming film, Ohs dished on what it was like to work with Charli XCX on set. He has nothing but praises for the budding actress, saying:
"Charli is an excellent actress. She is a performer. She understands what it's like to have a camera pointed at her. She understands how to convey things through all the different ways in which we communicate, whether it's with body language or your voice or your facial expressions."
Ohs also recalled a particular scene where the Brat singer cried "without being asked." When it comes to acting, the filmmaker said that the musician-turned-actress can "deliver all the goods" before labeling her a "legit actress." He added that he's proud of everything for making a film like they did "during 'Brat' summer.
Speaking of Brat Summer, the pop star is gearing up for the release of her Brat remix album on October 11. She talked to Apple Music's Zane Lowe about the remix, Girl, so confusing, with Lorde that started the entire project. Charli XCX opened up about her initial fear about putting out the original song in the album and how Lorde would react to it. She said:
"I was ready for her to never speak to me again. That could have been an outcome."
She explained that she didn't give Lorde a chance to listen to the song before its release because their time difference messed up her plans. She said that when she did tell the New Zealander about the track, the latter replied that she'd already heard it. It led to a back-and-forth of voice notes that eventually resulted in the remix.
Charli XCX's forthcoming Brat remix album features both previously released and new mixes, including Girl, so confusing with Lorde, Talk talk with Troye Sivam, and mixes with Bon Iver, Robyn, and more.
