Rapper Cam'ron recently revealed that he turned down the key to New York City amid controversies surrounding rapper Diddy and NYC Mayor Eric Adams. During the September 27 episode of his sports podcast, It Is What It Is, Cam'ron told fellow host Ma$e about his decision to reject the recent honor bestowed on him, saying he didn't want to be a part of the drama.

“You know what’s crazy? This is word to everything I love. Last month, they called me to see if I wanted the key to the city. I said, ‘I don’t want to be involved with nothing.' They offered me that s**t. They said, ‘Cam, you want the key to the city?’ I was like, ‘That ain’t really up my alley right now. I’m cool with the key to New York City, man,'” Cam'ron said.

Cam'ron also said he had no desire to be associated with the people giving out the keys or the others who had previously held the honor. Fans interpreted the statement as a subtle dig at Adams and Diddy, as the former presented the latter with the key to NYC in September 2023.

“Where does that get you? I don’t want nothing to do with the keys to the city and the n****s giving ’em out, the n****s who previously had ’em. I don’t got nothing to do with the key to the city,” Cam'ron said.

Diddy's key was rescinded in May 2024 after a 2016 CCTV video of him assaulting his ex-partner Cassie Ventura became public.

Exploring the allegations against Diddy and Eric Adams amid news of Cam'ron rejecting the key to NYC

Rapper Cam'ron's statement that he did not want anything to do with New York City came after the city became a hotspot for two major legal controversies. On September 16, Diddy was arrested on charges relating to s*x trafficking and prostitution.

This was preceded by several lawsuits that accused Diddy of abuse, r*pe, and assault, with the first one filed by Ventura in November 2023. Diddy's mansions in LA and Miami were also subjected to raids that saw Homeland Security confiscate guns, drugs, and 1000 bottles of baby oil.

They also reportedly found evidence of "freak offs," which the indictment described as events the rapper allegedly orchestrated for his pleasure. The "freak offs" often resulted in women allegedly being forced or drugged to perform s*xual acts with male escorts.

The rapper is currently held at the Metropolitan Detention Center, awaiting his next hearing on October 9. He was denied bail twice, with his lawyers appealing in hopes of a third attempt at bail.

Mayor Eric Adams faced charges of bribery and corruption

NYC Mayor Eric Adams was indicted on five counts of criminal offenses, including "bribery, campaign finance, and conspiracy offenses." The indictment, unsealed on September 26, accused Adams of abusing his power for nearly a decade by accepting illegal campaign funds from Turkish businessmen.

During his arraignment hearing on September 27, Adams pled not guilty to all five charges amid calls to resign from his post. He also maintained his innocence, releasing a video statement via his attorney detailing his desire to fight the charges.

“I always knew that if I stood my ground for New Yorkers that I would be a target—and a target I became. If I am charged, I am innocent and I will fight this with every ounce of my strength and spirit. I have been facing these lies for months… yet the city has continued to improve. Make no mistake. You elected me to lead this city, and lead it, I will.”

The mayor is expected in court for his hearing on October 2.
