Halsey released her new single, Lucky on July 26, 2024, which has a few melodies inspired by Britney Spears’ 2000 track, which is also of the same name. Halsey has now opened up to BBC Radio 1 and revealed the process, and how she shared everything with Britney as the singer wanted to make sure she was “totally nailing it.”
Halsey said:
"I shared everything with her every step of the way. Down to, from the first demo of the song. I sent her a shot-for-shot treatment of the music video just because I wanted to make sure I was totally nailing it."
Furthermore, Halsey even recalled how she and Britney Spears also exchanged “merch and stuff,” and she narrated:
"She sent me 'Lucky' merch for the 'Lucky' anniversary, and I sent her some merch and stuff like that. It's definitely like a pinch me thing. I didn't even know she knew who I was, kinda. And so every day I'm kind of just looking around being like, there's a 6-year-old girl that's freaking out."
The singer also recalled how she was extremely nervous borrowing Britney Spears’ melody and iconic tune. The song is from Halsey's fifth studio album and has been written by Alexander Krolund, Ashley Nicolette Frangipane and James Everett Lawrence.
“I love Halsey and that’s why I deleted it”- Britney Spears’ deleted a post bashing Halsey explored
Halsey has been in the spotlight ever since she released her latest single, Lucky in the last few days of July, this year. While many fans and followers loved the song, Halsey herself admitted how she borrowed a few tunes and melodies from Britney Spears’ track of the same name, which was released almost 15 years back.
She also claimed that she did all of this by taking the due consent of the pop queen. However, a post, which was immediately deleted by Britney Spears, left the masses shocked as she posted on her Instagram stories on July 26, 2024, the same day that Lucky was released, stating how she is “very upset about the Halsey video.”
The Instagram story read:
“For obvious reasons, I’m very upset about the Halsey video. I feel harassed, violated and bullied. I didn’t know an artist like her and someone I looked up to and admired would illustrate me in such an ignorant way by tailoring me as a superficial pop star with no heart or concern at all. I’m speaking with my lawyers today to see what can be done on this matter. It feels illegal and downright cruel.”
However, since the post was immediately taken down, the masses were left bewildered. Britney then jumped on to her social media, and clarified that it was not her who posted the story, as she posted on X:
“Fake news !!! That was not me on my phone !!! I love Halsey and that’s why I deleted it!!!”
While it is clear that Britney Spears does not have any problem with Halsey's song of the same name and melody, the latter has often expressed how she felt doubtful doing the song. In an interview with Capital Breakfast, Halsey said:
“I remember thinking when we were doing it, ‘How has this not been done before? Has this been done before?’ Is there a reason this hasn’t been done before? Am I about to bark up a tree of disappointment where I fall in love with this song and there’s a reason it hasn’t been sampled in a really big way yet?”
She continued:
“So I was really nervous, and ultimately, when I got the blessing from Britney and Max Martin — who was involved in the original version of the song — having them onboard, I was like, every single day of the process I was waiting for someone to be like, ‘Just kidding, you don’t get to do it anymore.'”
However, as soon as the song was released on YouTube and other music streaming platforms, it became an instant hit, as it has already received more than four million views on YouTube itself in just six days of its release.
At the same time, several social media users are also showering love on Halsey's posts about the song.
