Former One Direction member Liam Payne died at the age of 31 on October 16, 2024, after he fell from the third-floor balcony of a Buenos Aires hotel. The singer had been staying at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in the Argentinian capital when he fell to his death.

The Argentine public prosecutor confirmed that Payne sustained serious injuries from the fall, including internal bleeding and 25 traumatic injuries all over the body, including his skull. Those injuries were reportedly enough to cause his death, per the Associated Press.

After hearing about his bandmate's death, Harry Styles took to Instagram on Thursday, October 17, 2024, to share a statement in Liam Payne's honor. He wrote about the devastation he felt after learning about his friend's death. Styles also called Payne "warm, supportive, and incredibly loving," as he praised his bandmate for his energy for life.

"Liam lived wide open, with his heart on his sleeve, he had an energy for life that was infectious. The years we spent together will forever remain among the most cherished years of my life. I will miss him always, my lovely friend," Harry Styles wrote.

Harry Styles' tribute came after fellow One Direction mates Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson shared their own tributes to Liam Payne on social media. Malik remembered Payne as "the most qualified in every sense" when it came to music. He also stated that he "lost a brother" after Payne's death, and added that he would give anything to hug his former bandmate one last time.

Meanwhile, Louis Tomlinson praised his former bandmate and frequent collaborator, Liam Payne. He called the Live Forever singer an "incredible songwriter with a great sense of melody." Tomlinson also promised his friend he would be an uncle to Payne's son, Bear.

Everything about Liam Payne's passing as tributes pour for the late One Direction member

News of Liam Payne's death broke on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, after reports came out claiming he fell from the third floor of the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Argentina. Payne was reportedly in Buenos Aires to attend his former One Direction band member, Niall Horan's concert, The Show.

The concert was held on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, and fan videos showed Payne dancing through his former bandmate's performance. The two singers also took a selfie together that night, which Payne shared on his Snapchat with the caption, "Reunited."

However, nearly two weeks after that, the singer fell to his death from the third-floor room of the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires. The Associated Press reported that the local police supposedly found the singer's hotel room trashed and "in complete disarray."

The forensics team also reportedly found suspicious items in the room, which are believed to be related to the accident. These items included a whiskey bottle, packs of the depressant clonazepam, and other over-the-counter medications.

Liam Payne's cause of death is currently listed as "multiple trauma" and "internal and external bleeding." The autopsy report allegedly found internal bleeding and 25 traumatic injuries across his body, including his skull.

The Argentine public prosecutor noted that the injuries were enough to cause Payne's death. He was reportedly "going through some kind of substance abuse episode" at the time, per the public prosecutor via AP News.

Authorities have requested a toxicology test on Liam Payne's body, but it remains pending and could take weeks before the results become public.
