Rapper Cash Cobain, who is becoming a well-known name in the hip-hop community, recently addressed the rumors about ghost-writing for Drake during a No Jumper interview. Cobain and Canadian rapper Drake collaborated on the track Calling For You, which was released in 2023.

In April 2024, however, rumors spread that Cash Cobain had written the entire song after a reference track leaked on the internet. In a recent interview, Cobain confirmed it wasn't the case, and he had done no ghostwriting for Drake.

"I don't know what you're talking about. I don't write for nobody but me."

While he denied the rumors, he explained he wasn't against the concept of writing for someone else. Cobain further cited the examples of other artists who ghostwrite for business, including Beyoncé and Rihanna. He continued:

"All day, they got the biggest records. It's a business."

Cobain further shared that it was different between writing for a pop star and doing the same for a rapper or a hip-hop artist. He continued:

"It's just rap sh*t, you know."

Cash Cobain has always given priority to being original in the music industry

In April, when the reference track got leaked on the internet, with Cobain's voice rapping the lead vocals of the track. Drake was amid the beef with Kendrick Lamar, and Cobain was the latest artist who was getting dragged right into the middle of it by fans after the ghostwriting claims began fuming up.

While it was initially confirmed that Cash Cobain was a co-producer for the song, after the leak, many thought he also had a fair share of contribution in the songwriting part.

On April 16, Cobain posted a photo of Allen Iverson, on both Instagram and X. HotNewHipHop reported that since Iverson is known for his "fake behind the back move," it was possible that Cobain wanted to hint that the "leaked" reference track was actually fake.

HotNewHipHop reported that in previous instances, Cobain had expressed his admiration for artists like Jay-Z and 50 Cent. However, he also put a major focus on creating something unique and of his own. He told Passion of the Weiss:

"I didn’t want to emulate nobody. I love 50 Cent, Jay-Z, I loved all the artists growing up but those two were like, the main ones. [But] I didn’t want to emulate. I just wanted to make beats."

This decision had proven quite favorable for the artist. His genre, which he had described as "sexy trap" had become quite viral this year. While his production is becoming mainstream, he has also co-signed with top artists like J. Cole and Busta Rhymes. Cobain has also become a part of the XXL Freshman list.

This year in February, Cobain launched his single Fisherrr, which became quite popular within some time. In an April interview with Complex, Cash Cobain shed light on the making of the hit track.

"I was with mad people. My studio sessions are crazy. I told Bay to pull up like, "Yo, bro, I'm about to do a studio session," and bro was there before me. When we got there, I pulled up this beat that me, WhoJiggi, and FckBwoy! made."

This song made it to the Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles ranking 11. The young rapper also released another track this year titled Grippy, which features J. Cole.
