Diddy was arrested and charged with s*x trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to engage in pr*stitution last month. While he is awaiting trial at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, Busta Rhymes shared his response in an interview with Extra on October 21, 2024.
The conversation happened during the premiere of Venom: The Last Dance in New York City and Busta Rhymes said that he would reserve his judgment about the ongoing legal issue for now. He elaborated by saying:
"The one thing that we should take away from what I'm saying is everybody probably need to mind their damn business until the truth is undisputed. At that point, justice needs to be served accordingly for everyone involved."
Busta added that people need to be careful while sharing their opinion on anything, describing it as "insensitive" to speak on anything that "you have no understanding of outside of what you're being told." Furthermore, he referred to Diddy and continued:
"His situation is not a hip-hop situation and I also would like for everyone to be mindful of the thirst and the urgency and the need to speak on the situation."
Notably, a video of the interview was obtained by Hollywood Unlocked and they shared the same through their Instagram page. Netizens took to the comments section of the post to react to Busta's statements and one of them seemingly did not agree with the rapper as he wrote:
"If you attended a Diddy party, just say that."
A section of the public was in support of Busta Rhymes, with a user stating that people were making things worse with their accusations and speculations. A few others requested him to make the comments after watching the assault footage of Cassie Ventura, which was obtained by CNN in May this year.
Busta Rhymes told everyone to focus on themselves until Diddy is proven guilty
In his interview with Extra, Busta said that criticism and speculations for the ongoing case won't be useful for anyone. He emphasized that "justice needs to be served accordingly for everyone involved" and everyone should focus on their lives until "the truth is undisputed."
Apart from this, he referred to Diddy's victims as he said:
"For the people who were there, let's think about them first before you think about your own opinion. Put prayers up for them all."
Busta continued addressing the rapper's victims, saying that he does not want anyone to face similar situations. He further stated:
"So I'm gonna leave it there, and I'm gonna mind my business, and hopefully everybody can find it in their hearts to keep their opinion to themself and just know that every time you voice an opinion, you might be hurting somebody."
About Diddy's ongoing controversy, in brief
Also known as Sean John Combs, he was taken into custody on September 16, 2024. A grand jury indictment was also acquired by Page Six the following day, which said that bottles of baby oil and lubricant were discovered at his house by the authorities during a raid in March this year. The items were used in alleged s*x events called freak-offs.
Earlier this month, attorney Tony Buzbee announced at a press conference that he would represent 120 alleged victims of Diddy, adding that he has been approached by 3,000 people, planning to file lawsuits against Sean. The accusations did not stop and Sean was sued by six more people around a week ago on multiple charges, including molestation and s*xual assault.
Diddy had already applied for bail after his arrest but his requests were rejected by the court. His trial is scheduled for May 5, 2025.
