Popular rapper Common appeared on the latest episode of The Breakfast Club and revealed that he will get married to his girlfriend, Jennifer Hudson. As he spoke about his new album, The Auditorium, Vol. 1, he exclaimed how he spent time at home to energize himself, which made Charlamagne tha God ask if Common was ready to “build a real foundation.” To this, the rapper answered:
"With all due respect to all the women I've dated. It's all love, but this is a really healthy and beautiful relationship. If I'm going to get married, it's to her. That's simple as that.”
During the interview, he also spoke about how he has a different kind of connection to Hudson, as both of them were born and brought up in Chicago. The rapper also appreciated Jennifer Hudson’s nature as he recalled the incident when he saw Jennifer buying ice cream for everyone on the set of her movie.
Common and Jennifer Hudson met while working on Substance in 2022. After that, the couple was often seen together but never confirmed their relationship until December 2023, when Common appeared on The Jennifer Hudson Show and announced that they were dating.
"We worked really well together and we're also just super in love. It's amazing to find someone that you just laugh with and that you get to make music with," he said on The Jennifer Hudson Show.
Jennifer Hudson features in a track in Common’s latest album
Apart from Common's recent statement about his wish to get married to Jennifer Hudson one day, netizens are talking about his new collaborative track with Hudson. The duo appear together in one of the rapper's latest tracks, A God (There Is.), from his album The Auditorium, Vol. 1.
Furthermore, the rapper spoke about the collaboration with People Magazine after the album and track release and said that the song's lyrics reflect his feelings towards Jennifer.
“I am in a great partnership, and, man, Jennifer is somebody I do really care about and do love and am growing with. The potential of a ‘champion lover’ means, ‘Yo, you are the one.’ I am feeling that. It’s a lot of potential there is what I’ll say,” he said.
As Common gave insight into his idea of marriage and getting married to his now-girlfriend, Jennifer, social media users also talked about how this is not the time that the rapper expressed his wish to get married. During a recent appearance on Today, Hoda Kotb asked the rapper if he is the “marrying type,” to which he responded:
"I feel like I have grown and the work that I've done on myself has allowed me to see that I am a marrying type. I'm capable and have the capacity. At some point in my life I may want to do that."
"I would know when the right time is and I think, for me, everything is divine, like, I work from that discernment that when God speaks into your stomach and you feel it in your heart and your spirit, so when I will feel that, I will communicate that with that person and if she's feeling that, then why not?," he added.
While Common has expressed his wish to get married to Hudson one day, the Dreamgirls actress has not yet responded to the rapper’s statement. However, the netizens constantly comment on multiple posts, saying they wish the same thing would happen very soon.
