After months of speculation, rappers Ashanti and Nelly opened up about their secret wedding. Sources such as TMZ claimed that the long-time couple, who are currently expecting, got married some months ago. Public records show they have been legally married since December 27. St. Louis County has the paperwork, but no further details were disclosed.

Meanwhile, once the news of the couple being married for months was made public by TMZ on Instagram, netizens took to the comment section of the post to react to the entire thing.

Rapper and song-writer couple Nelly and Ashanti finally opened up about their marriage

Nelly and Ashanti had discreetly tied the knot in December 2023. The singers exchanged vows, TMZ reported in a story on Wednesday, June 19. The location of the wedding, however, has been kept a secret.

The same sources claimed that the legal ceremony took place in St. Louis County. Moreover, they have been hinting at their wedding for a few weeks now, but as per reports, they haven't held a formal ceremony yet.

Furthermore, several reports also hinted at an impending larger celebration. Additionally, on June 18, Ashanti gushed about Nelly's personal proposal in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.

In an exclusive conversation with Deidre Behar of the outlet, she revealed-

"Never in a million years did I think we would be here. Ten years ago -- maybe yes -- but after our breakup, you know, I didn't even think we'd ever have a conversation again."

She further continued-

"I guess when you go through a breakup, for me personally, I kind of just shut that person out... It's kinda like, OK, that chapter is closed and you just move on, you know, and there's nothing there."

The couple dated for almost a decade before splitting up in 2013. In 2015, Ashanti talked to People and blamed "trust" for the breakup. She further said that she had been betrayed.

However, following the split, as the two began doing shows together, they got closer. Fans were happy when it eventually became clear that the two were once again a couple. This was particularly evident after it became known that the couple was expecting their first child.

Furthermore, Ashanti talked about her pregnancy to Essence on April 17 and said-

"Motherhood is something that I have looked forward to, and sharing this with my family, fiancé, and loyal fans, who have been so supportive of my career, is an amazing experience."

This would be Nelly's 5th child, as his other children are from other relationships, while Ashanti would only have her first child. The Dilemma Video singer adopted Sydney Thomas and Shawn, the two children of his late sister Jackie Donahue, when she passed away in 2005. He also has a son, Cornell Jr., and a daughter, Chanelle.
