NSYNC recently made history as they received a VMAS 2024 nomination for Best Group even after being inactive for more than 20 years. This happened after the 2024 super hit movie Deadpool & Wolverine featured the band’s song Bye Bye Bye and, as a result, brought back the popular boy group.
The Justin Timberlake-led band has started trending ever since being featured in the movie. They got nominated alongside Coldplay, Imagine Dragons, NCT DREAM, NewJeans, SEVENTEEN, TOMORROW X TOGETHER, and Twenty One Pilots.
After it was announced, X users took to the platform to express their excitement over the whole thing. One netizen also pointed out that the band is still relevant even after two decades.
“Other groups’ stans being mad at this because *NSYNC haven’t released an album or toured since the early 2000s but the gag is that this just means they deserve the win even more, imagine still being this relevant 20+ years later,” wrote one X user.
Other X users also echoed a similar sentiment.
“2024 has been the year of the icons! Who'd have thought that @NSYNC would be a #VMA nominee in 2024?! We love to see it! And so deserved, guys,” wrote another netizen.
“@NSYNC is nominated for the #VMA for best group… in 2024! @vmas.” commented another user.
“*NSYNC IS NOMINATED FOR A VMA AWARD IN 2024,” said another user.
Other X users also expressed their excitement over the news.
“*NSYNC is going to win lol because they are popular right now and they definitely don’t deserve to win,” another one said.
“*Nsync solos all,” another netizen said.
“I love this for us and them,” said one excited X user.
NSYNC has been trending since Bye Bye Bye was used in Deadpool & Wolverine
Following its release, the Marvel superhero movie starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman broke box office records with a whopping $205 million in domestic sales during its first weekend, eventually making more than $1 billion worldwide.
Due to the movie's success, a number of its songs and their singers have become popular, with the 90s band, which includes Justin, JC, Joey, Lance, and Chris, leading the way.
At the start of Deadpool & Wolverine, Deadpool can be seen dancing to Bye Bye Bye in an action sequence shown during the opening credits.
As a result, since then, the song has had immense success on streaming services. According to Billboard, as of July 31, it is currently at a new high of No. 32 on the Spotify Daily Top 50 U.S. chart.
Moreover, it also received 3.35 million official on-demand streams in the United States from July 26 to July 29, which is 382% more than the total amount of streams it received during the same period last week. As per the same source, having debuted at No. 16, it now soared to the top 10, peaking at No. 8 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart.
The music and the new Deadpool movie brought the band and the song back to fame, and now it's been nominated for Best Group at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards.
Once the nominations were shared by VMA’s official X account, netizens took to the platform to express their opinion. While some shared their disbelief and said who would have thought that NSYNC would be a VMA nominee in 2024, some expressed their excitement about the whole thing.
