Kehlani has been trending in the headlines for some time after her former partner Javaughn Young-White allegedly claimed that she is reportedly associated with a cult and requested full custody of their daughter Adeya Nomi on July 24, 2024, through a petition.
Meanwhile, Kehlani shared a statement through her Instagram story on August 6 in response, where she started by saying:
"What has been published in the media over the past 24 hours is incredibly hurtful, inaccurate, inappropriate, and simply untrue. I wanted to take the time to ensure that I responded to these accusations from a calm and considered space rather than a reactive one."
She dismissed the claims made about her which stated that she put her child in danger or left her alone with someone who was "dangerous or unsafe".
"I also do not align with any of the allegations against my former religious community that have been stated in the media."
Also known as Kehlani Ashley Parrish, she continued by saying that she has always ensured her child's protection and safety, and she has always remained committed to her responsibilities as a mother. She ended by stating that she would take a break for the well-being of her child and added:
"Thank you for your support and for respecting our privacy. I will not be commenting further and will let the legal due process take place."
Ashley Parrish and Young-White dated from 2018 to 2019 and maintained a lot of privacy in their relationship. The latter has pursued his career as a guitarist and his brother Jaboukie is a popular comedian.
Javaughn Young-White made some shocking claims about Kehlani in the court documents: Response and other details explained
As mentioned, Javaughn Young-White filed a petition to get full custody of the daughter he shares with Ashley Parrish. The court documents obtained by People magazine stated that Adeya's birth was a result of a cult where Ashley Parrish was involved and his name was not mentioned on Adeya's birth certificate.
Javaughn stated that the cult leader reportedly told Ashley Parrish that their daughter was not safe with him and he was eventually not allowed to see Adeya for a long time. He allegedly claimed that the cult leader was involved in multiple s*xual assault cases. A portion of the lawsuit also says:
"While Respondent is on tour, and our daughter is in the care of her fellow cult members, Adeya sleeps in the bed with, and is given baths by random adult members of the cult and she is often in the bedroom alone with some of these people."
The lawsuit stated that the environment where Kehlani is living right now was not good for any child, requesting the court to do everything it could to save Adeya.
However, Javaughn also responded to the accusations he made against the singer, and his statement was reposted by the latter on her Instagram page. He referred to TMZ by saying that his daughter was not "in a s*x cult", adding that the outlet exploited a child's image by claiming the same. He continued:
"I have not been made aware of any court ordered mediation as of writing this per the account of TMZ. Personally, I would love for TMZ to justify to me, the father, how they came up with this narrative. The TMZ article sensationalized aspects of what was said while simultaneously breaching my confidentiality."
Javaughn additionally claimed that his case was not completely filed and there would be an "amended filing", explaining the reasons behind his concern. He mentioned that he does not need to "paint an unfair image" of Kehlani so that the court gives more importance to his feelings. He ended by writing:
"This unfortunate trauma only increases the obstacles in ensuring my child's wellbeing. For now, I am hoping to clear the discrepancies made by TMZ. I hope to see a formal retraction and apology."
