A conspiracy theory recently went viral on social media, alleging that Zach Top, a rising country music star, is the son of legendary '90s icon Alan Jackson. According to Whiskey Riff's January 11 report, the rumor started after Docc Andrews, a Canadian radio host of 93.7 JR Country, shared his theory on air.
While explaining the same, he cited Top's birthdate of September 6, 1997, and the timing of an Alan Jackson concert in Tacoma, Washington, nine months prior. The rumors started to spread further when the claim was added to Top's Wikipedia page.
As per News Meaww’s January 11 report, the now-deleted Wikipedia edit stated:
"Zach Top was born on September 26, 1997, and grew up on his father Alan Jackson’s ranch in Sunnyside, Washington. He got his musical start performing as part of a bluegrass band with his siblings called Top String.”
While it’s true that Zach Top got his start in a bluegrass band and was raised on a ranch in Sunnyside, Washington, the statement about Alan Jackson being Top's father is not true. Alan Jackson has three daughters- Mattie, Alexandra, and Dani.
Zach Top is not Alan Jackson's son
Dani Grace Jackson, Alexandra Jane Jackson Bradshaw, and Mattie Denise Jackson are the three daughters of country music artist Alan Jackson and his wife, Denise Jackson. Alan and Denise had their first child, Mattie, in June 1990.
Three years later, in August 1993, they welcomed Alexandra. Then, in August 1997, Dani, their youngest child, was born. As per People Magazine's June 30, 2024 report, Mattie attended the University of Tennessee to study creative writing.
She married her then-husband, Ben Selecman, a former Assistant District Attorney, in October 2017, a few years after graduating. However, on September 14, 2018, just days before their first wedding anniversary, Selecman passed away after slipping and injuring his head.
On July 18, 2020, Alexandra Jane, the second daughter of the singer and his wife, married Sam Bradshaw. As per the same report, despite growing up in Tennessee, the two met while attending a longtime friend's wedding. Mattie and Dani, her sisters, were bridesmaids. Alan then announced Alexandra's pregnancy on Instagram on July 26, 2022.
Meanwhile, not much is known about Dani, Alan and Denise's youngest daughter. However, she was once seen in one of Alan's music videos for the song Drive in the early 2000s. At the end of the video, Dani and her sisters were seen traveling with their father through a field. Additionally, her sister Mattie's Instagram account has featured her.
The sisters have shared on social media how they frequently get together for birthdays, holidays, family get-togethers, and beverages. In a New Year's Eve Instagram post, Mattie even praised her younger sisters for joining her 2020 support network.
However, none of the media outlets have reported that Alan Jackson is the father of country singer Zach Top. The controversy started when RJ Docc Andrews claimed during one of his shows:
"You guys, Zach Top was born September 6th, 1997, in Sunnyside, Washington, USA. If you go back nine months from his birth date to the winter of 1996. In November of 1996, Alan Jackson played at the Tacoma Dome in Tacoma, Washington! Have you seen Zach Top's face? His mustache? His sound? Zach Top is Alan Jackson's son. Prove me wrong,"
To dispute the rumor even more, Top once gave an interview and discussed the origin of his middle name. As per the interview, which was uploaded on TikTok on December 22, 2024, by Zachary Top Fan, he said,
“My name is Zachary ‘Dirk’ Top. I was named after my dad’s dad, Dutch fella.. Back home they called him ‘Dirk’...”
However, the name of Alan Jackson’s father is Joseph Eugene "Daddy Gene" Jackson. He was not Dutch but rather a mechanic at the Ford Motor Co. assembly plant in Hapeville.
