Is Cardi B signed to Atlantic Records? Nicki Minaj mocks mass layoffs at record label saying "UPS is hiring"

Barbie World singer Nicki Minaj recently mocked record label Atlantic Records as the company started layoffs. Minaj shared a tweet on September 19, 2024, where she addressed the recording label and said:

"Dear fired executives & A&R’s: Don’t be mad, UPS is hiring. Also, feel free to submit your resumes for a job @ #HeavyOnIt."

For the unversed, Heavy On It is Minaj's record label which was launched back in April 2023. Meanwhile, it is also worth knowing that one of the popular stars signed to Atlantic Records is Cardi B who has a beef with Nicki Minaj.

Variety had first reported about the mass lay-offs at Atlantic Records on Thursday. The situation arose within two months after the label's parent company Warner Music Group announced that chairwoman Julie Greenwald was leaving them.Then on September 17, Kevin Liles, the CEO of WMG’s 300 Elektra Entertainment, also announced that he was exiting.

It had been reported that Warner Music Group CEO Robert Kyncl, had given a warning about upcoming possible layoffs through an internal memo. However, it wasn't confirmed how many employees had to be fired in the process.


Hundreds of employees may get laid off at Atlantic Records

In an article published by Billboard on September 19, it was reported that Atlantic Records was going through restructuring which led to a massive number of layoffs. The outlet further mentioned that they obtained the names of a few people who had been laid off from the company.

This included names like Margo Scott the executive vice president, head of business & legal affairs & general counsel at 300 Elektra Entertainment, Chris Brown, the executive VP at Elektra Entertainment and co-head of Roadrunner Records, and Adam Abramson, the head of sales & streaming at Elektra, to name a few. An email obtained by Billboard which Kyncl sent, read:

"I want to acknowledge the hard work, passion, and creativity of everyone across Atlantic, 300 and Elektra. In particular, I want to thank the people who will be leaving us. You’ve made an indelible mark on this company and the careers of the extraordinary artists you’ve championed."

Just a month back, on August 27, Cardi B shared a post on her Instagram story, where she captured the interiors of Atlantic Records. What caught netizens' attention was her caption, which read:

"Back at Atlantic Records correctional facilities."

Atlantic Records was founded in October 1947 by Ahmet Ertegun and Herb Abramson. Initially, the company focussed on soul, jazz, and R&B and signed artists like Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, and Otis Redding. Over the years, it become one of the most popular and significant record labels across the US.

In 1967, the label became a fully owned subsidiary of the Warner Music Group and expanded to rock and pop music. Some of the most well-known artists signed to this label include Bruno Mars, Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, Charli XCX, Cardi B, Charlie Puth, Kehlani, Lil Uzi Vert, Burna Boy, Sia, The Rolling Stones, Twenty One Pilots, and Lizzo.
