M.I.A. alleges Beyoncé’s Malibu mansion tied to industry exploitation

On Tuesday, January 14, 2025, M.I.A. took to her Instagram account and spilled some claims involving Beyoncé. At the beginning of the live stream, Maya suggested that she lives in a town where the most expensive home is owned by Bey.

The British rapper further suggested that Bey capitalized on this level of ignorance that people are not being able to clear up, but she has come forward to clear this up.

"I’m also in a town where the most expensive house in this town is owned by a Black woman, which is Beyoncé. Because she capitalized on this level of ignorance without people like me clearing sh*t up. So, this is also why I'm clearing this up," Maya said.

Furthermore, M.I.A. alleged that society's obsession with wealth and material accumulation fuels a systemic "machine" that exploits collective efforts. As a result, this system rewards individuals like Beyoncé with extreme wealth, like her $200 million house, the Malibu mansion.

"Money and everything and accumulation and everybody’s spirit has been feeding into this machine. And the machine has been paying out, hence you can have someone like Beyoncé have a $200 million house," Maya added.

This is not the first instance of M.I.A. criticizing Beyoncé. The British rapper recently addressed the matter during an Instagram Live session in November 2024, following Adele's win and her subsequent acknowledgment of Beyoncé.

In her remarks, M.I.A. expressed frustration with artists consistently crediting Beyoncé upon receiving major awards.

"I find it difficult that when people make it, they all can turn around and thank Beyoncé, because that’s f*cked it, and enough is enough,” she said. “I’m f*cking coming for everyone now," Maya said.

Maya further claimed that Adele’s career owes a debt to her, citing her role in introducing Jonathan Dickens, Adele's manager.

"Adele, because she’s retired now, but her career would not exist if I hadn’t made Jonathan Dickens into a manager, who is her manager. When she gets an award, she thanks Beyoncé. And I’m sick and tired of all of the fu*king women who don’t want to give respect to me because I’m a brown woman in music" Maya added.

The rapper also criticized Beyoncé’s evolution towards a more radical and politicized artistic persona, suggesting her own contributions have been inadequately recognized.

Despite the strong statements, there is no documented conflict between M.I.A. and Beyoncé, nor has M.I.A. provided specific details in her live sessions explaining the motivation behind her comments.

According to Architectural Digest, Beyoncé and her husband Jay-Z purchased $200 million Malibu home in 2023, making it the most expensive property in all of California's history. The house is a grand 16,107 sqft living room, ten bedrooms, 14 bathroom, and has a 2-story high limestone piece.
