Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland had a Destiny's Child reunion at a rally for Kamala Harris at the Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, Texas, on Friday, October 25, 2024. The two singers took the stage to endorse the Democratic nominee, with Beyoncé's Freedom playing in the background.
In addition to their moving speech, what caught netizens' eyes was Rowland's oversized suit.
As photos and videos from the rally began circulating online, internet users were quick to comment on Rowland's wardrobe choice. One netizen on X tweeted:
"Is this a humiliation ritual?"
Many joked that the Dilemma hitmaker looked like Beyoncé’s husband, Jay-Z. Here are some comments seen on X:
"Kelly Rowland walked out like she was Beyoncé’s Husband," one wrote.
"No seriously I had to do a double take like "IS THAT KELENDRIA?!" another added.
"Wait that's not Jay-Z?" a fan joked.
Others weighed in on whether they liked the look or not.
"(She) put on a suit and a bob, you know she meant BUSINESS!!" a user added.
"Who was in charge of wardrobe?" one person commented.
"(She) wearing that '90s Mentos commercial suit...she looks GOOD I'm obsessed," another quipped.
"Houston, you’ve already had a hand in creating Destiny"— Kelly Rowland and Beyoncé urge people to vote
At Friday's rally, Kelly Rowland and Beyoncé urged people to vote, endorsing Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. The Destiny's Child alums took the stage after the Halo hitmaker's mother introduced the pair.
Beyoncé, donning a black blazer dress paired with a matching mini skirt, told the audience she was there not as a celebrity or politician but rather as a mother.
"I’m here as a mother—a mother who cares deeply about the world my children and all of our children live in. A world where we have the power to control our bodies. A world where we’re not divided…It’s time for America to sing a new song," the singer said.
Beyoncé's support came as no surprise, as in July she gave Harris permission to use her song Freedom for her presidential campaign. A month later, her record label and music publisher issued a cease-and-desist to Donald Trump‘s presidential campaign for using the track.
Kelly Rowland also gave a speech supporting Harris. She began:
"Houston, you’ve already had a hand in creating ‘destiny.’ So do what you do, and let’s do this thing again."
Rowland explained that these elections held importance not just for the United States and its citizens but for the whole world. She stated people need to "grab back the pen" from those who want "division and hatred," "misogyny and racism," and are against a woman's right to choose.
"We are grabbing back the pen to forge a new path with Kamala Harris and Tim Walz," Kelly Rowland asserted.
The rally also featured Texas native and country music legend Willie Nelson, who performed his hits On the Road Again and Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys.
The Harris-Walz ticket has a slew of celebrity support, including Barack and Michelle Obama, Sarah Jessica Parker, Taylor Swift, Bruce Springsteen, and Leonardo DiCaprio.
The U.S. presidential election is scheduled for Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
