Rapper Lil Baby was taken into custody on Monday night, August 27, in Las Vegas on suspicion of carrying an illegal weapon, according to arrest and court documents.
Furthermore, TMZ reported, that the rapper, whose actual name is Dominique Jones, was reportedly put into the Clark County Detention Center on suspicion of carrying a hidden handgun without a permit.
After being brought to the Clark County Detention Center, Lil Baby had to give a $5,000 bail. As per the court documents, he paid the cash bond and was let out of custody. Now his next scheduled court date is October 1.
As per the law enforcement officials who spoke with TMZ, the rapper was spotted being tossed a gun on camera during the encounter in Vegas.
Lil Baby has already been released from the custody
Lil Baby's attorneys, Drew Findling and David Chesnoff said that Jones possesses a current Georgia Carrying a Concealed Weapon (CCW) Permit. However, permits granted in Georgia for carrying concealed weapons are not recognized in Nevada.
The Independent received a joint statement from the attorneys that read,
“To be clear, Dominique Jones has a valid Georgia Carrying a Concealed Weapon (CCW) Permit. On his behalf we are actively investigating the facts and circumstances surrounding his arrest in Las Vegas.”
The circumstances surrounding his arrest in Las Vegas are being looked at by them right now. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, however, has not yet made any information public regarding the precise event that resulted in the arrest.
Lil Baby has already had prior run-ins with the law. He was detained in Atlanta in 2019 for driving recklessly. In the fan-captured video, the Drip Too Hard rapper was pushed out of his automobile by the police on an Atlanta interstate on Thursday, February 7.
The rapper was then charged with "failure to signal, eluding police and reckless driving," as the law enforcement sources told TMZ.
In a statement released by the Georgia State Patrol, they said that when changing lanes in their car, a patrol
"Saw an orange Chevrolet Corvette fail to signal."
They further said,
“(Jones) began weaving between cars at a high rate of speed. As the trooper began to catch up, the Corvette got stuck in heavy traffic. As the trooper got behind the vehicle, he attempted to accelerate and change lanes”.
In the footage of the arrest, the Atlanta native was seen being pinned to the ground by a police officer in the middle of the road while sirens could be heard in the background.
Lil Baby posted bond and was soon after freed from detention. The video captured the rapper driving out of the Atlanta City Detention Center and into a Porsche as soon as he was freed. He wrote on Instagram in response to the event,
"F*ck The Police Who Be On That Bullsh*t, Shoutout To The Ones Who Get You Thru The Process ASAP.”
Furthermore, two years after this, Lil Baby was again arrested in Paris on July 9, 2021, on charges of transporting drugs. The 26-year-old artist allegedly received punishment for having 32 grams of cannabis in his car, according to the Paris prosecutor's office.
James Harden, an NBA player, was also stopped. He was frisked but not arrested. The official stated that Lil Baby initially objected to the police inspecting the car. Plainclothes officers stopped the player, the rapper, and his bodyguard because their car had a strong cannabis stench, according to a French police official. The official stated that when the uniformed officers arrived and searched the car, they found the narcotic. However, he was later released.
The rapper posted the words I'm good to his Instagram post announcing his return to the United States after being freed.
Nevertheless, Lil Baby didn't say anything further about the recent arrest.
