Singer and rapper Lizzo has revealed that she has stepped away from veganism after four years, crediting animal proteins for helping her achieve significant health improvements, including weight loss. In an Instagram video, the 36-year-old shared details about her shift in diet and how it has positively impacted her energy levels and mental clarity.
She explained that the transition started during a trip to Japan, where she began exploring how animal proteins could benefit her body.
"Someone suggested I try a Japanese diet because it’s one of the healthiest diets in the world, and it has some of my favorite foods," she shared.
Lizzo's shift from veganism to animal proteins
On her recent trip to Japan, Lizzo tried fresh sushi and eggs and claimed that she could tell the positive changes in her health.
"When I got to Japan, I was in awe with how clean and delicious their food was. I indulged in fresh sushi and fluffy egg and I was amazed at how good my body felt the next day," she recalled.
This prompted her to do tests and research on the pros and cons of animal protein. The singer said that by reintroducing animal protein to her diet, she felt energized, lost some weight, and lifted her "mental fog".
She also posted about her recent meals which included egg white cups, grilled chicken, asparagus, carrots, and Buffalo chicken in a lettuce wrap. Besides food, Lizzo also incorporated okra water and lemon water between her meals.
As for plant-based diets, the singer might no longer be a vegan but she still supports veganism. Despite her current diet change, Lizzo reaffirmed her belief that a vegan diet is still the healthiest option and expressed her aspiration to one day follow a raw alkaline vegan lifestyle.
The singer asserted that there is nothing wrong with being vegan, especially when the diet is embraced by the person due to reasons such as environmentalism, love for animals, and health concerns.
The Truth Hurts hitmaker said that she understands that talking about veganism and shifting to meat eating can be controversial and misconstrued but she wants to be transparent about her lifestyle.
The multiple Grammy-winning singer added that she respects all people for choosing the type of diet that works best for them.
“Whether you’re vegan, pescatarian, white meat only or fully carnivorous, I’m not gonna judge you. Do what’s best for you in your life at that moment," she said.
Lizzo dismisses Ozempic use accusations
In addition to her dietary revelations, she also addressed speculation regarding her weight loss, particularly rumors that she had been using the diabetes medication Ozempic, which many use for rapid weight loss. The singer denied the claims, stating that her weight loss was achieved through weight training and maintaining a calorie deficit diet.
For now, Lizzo's diet includes animal proteins, which she believes have helped her reach her fitness and health goals. She continues to advocate for a balanced approach, sharing that she hopes to return to veganism in the future once she feels it aligns better with her body’s needs.
