During an Instagram live session on July 20, 2024, Madonna's son, David Banda, made a statement about not having enough money to get food at times. He sparked concern among fans as he added that he is scavenging after moving out of the family home in Bronx. However, he later clarified that it was just a joke.
As a follow-up to his initial comments, David Banda uploaded an Instagram story on July 21 to explain that he is doing fine and not homeless. Adding that his mother has been his constant support, he stated:
"TO ALL OF THOSE CONCERNED My mother is very supportive of me. She has always been supportive of me. I am very happy in my life and I am not living out on the streets, starving! Please stop worrying everything is good."
For the unversed, David is one of Madonna's six children and teaches virtual one-hour guitar lessons. As per his Instagram account, he charges $200 for one session.
David Banda opens up about his experience of moving out and living on his own
During his previous Instagram live session on Saturday (July 20), David Banda spoke about the struggle of living independently. When one of his followers asked him if he liked living on your own, he responded saying:
"I love it. I'm not on my own, I've got my girlfriend. But I love it. It's lovely to experience it being 9'o clock at night, me being hungry and realizing that I don't have enough money to get food and scavenging. It's fun to be young."
New York Daily News reported that Madonna adopted David Banda during a humanitarian trip to Malawi with Guy Ritchie in 2006. The singer later returned to Malawi to set up a charitable organization and adopted daughter Mercy, 18, and twins Stella and Estere, 11.
In 2022, David performed in a production called She Kills Monsters at the Los Angeles Country High School for the Arts (LACHSA). Madonna was also present to cheer for her son.
While talking about her adopted son in a May 2019 interview with Vogue, Madonna mentioned:
"What (David) has more than anything is focus and determination. I feel like he gets me; he has more of my DNA than any of my other children so far."
During an interview with The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in August 2022, Madonna praised David on his styling sense and said, "He'll put on any outfit and look swag as you know what."
He also used his guitar skills which he learned as a child to go back to his home country, Malawi, to teach orphans. On June 14, 2024, David took to his Instagram page and urged his fans and followers to support his initiative:
"We are bringing guitar strings, picks, books, and other music-based accessories and tools to advance the incredible music program and talented students within this beautiful school."
Madonna shares a close relationship with all her children and asked them join her on stage for her Celebration World Tour in April this year.
