The Fulton County Medical Examiner's senior investigator, Jimmy Sadler, confirmed the news of his passing in a statement to The Associated Press, although the cause of his death was withheld. More about why he died will be revealed after the autopsy, which will take place on Friday (September 6).
Page Six reported that Quan was found unresponsive by his girlfriend, Amber Williams, on the couch on Thursday, September 5. Williams then called 911, where she allegedly told the dispatchers that the Atlanta-based rapper had fallen asleep on the same couch the night before. She also reportedly told them that Quan hadn't budged when she checked on him that morning.
According to the same publication, Williams recalled placing a blanket over Rich Homie Quan, believing that he was still sound asleep. She had to leave the house and take her son to school. But when she came back and checked on the rapper again, she said that she couldn't feel his heartbeat. When she noticed that he wasn't breathing, she turned him over.
Williams recalled the events in the emergency call and was quoted saying:
"When I turned him over he kind of foamed at the mother."
She was reportedly instructed on the phone to lay Quan on his back on the floor and wait for the paramedics to come. At one point, Williams asked the dispatcher if she could "add his dad to the call," but the operator said they needed to help the rapper "now."
However, when the paramedics arrived at their Atlanta home, the rapper was declared dead at the scene.
