American rapper and singer-songwriter Cordae recently appeared in a video by YouTuber Peaks100 and revealed the main reason behind the break up of hip-hop group YBN. In the video dated December 30, 2024, the 27-year-old rapper revealed that the group did not have unity when it came to making business and creative decisions. He said:

“Groups don’t last—name one that has. Not even the Jackson 5, and they were family."

He added:

"We never recorded a song with all three of us. The business side was honestly pretty messed up. Things got heated in Europe, and once certain words are said, you can't take them back."

While talking about the reasons for the split, Cordae stated that he had no hard feelings for his former bandmates.

For those unversed, YBN (aka Young Boss N*ggas) was a hip-hop group formed by YBN Nahmir in Alabama in 2014. An article by 96.1 The Beat published last month, reported that Cordae officially became a core part of the band in 2018.

The three core members of the hip-hop group included YBN Nahmir, YBN Cordae, and Almighty Jay. The group released YBN: The Mixtape in 2018. The project had guest appearances from several stars including Wiz Khalifa, Gucci Mane, Chris Brown, Lil Skies, and Machine Gun Kelly.

Several YBN members including Cordae are now working on their respective solo careers

Cordae along with other YBN members like Nahmir and Almighty Jay released solo projects after the hip-hop group broke up. In November, Cordae released his third studio album titled The Crossroads. It contained some popular singles like Saturday Mornings with Lil Wayne and No Bad News featuring Kanye West.

As aforementioned, the trio had no bad blood among them, as confirmed by the Have Mercy artist. He said during the conversation with YouTuber Peaks100:

"Nahmir is still my homie. Jay, I still mess with him."

While the trio has reportedly been on good terms, the same didn't happen to everybody associated with the group. In 2021, Almighty Jay reportedly accused James McMillan, the group's former manager, of business malpractice.

According to Jay, James wrongfully trademarked the name "YBN" without the band members' knowledge. Jay further accused the former manager of exploiting the group back then.
