Recently, a video of American political commentator Candace Owens seeking an interview with rapper Nicki Minaj has gone viral on social media. An X user (@Q4quise) reshared the video, originally posted by another X user (@Jay_qee) on November 10, 2024.
In the video, Owens appeared to be reading some comments, one of which suggested offering her platform to Nicki. Owens responded:
"I would love to talk to Nicki Minaj. Nicki, if you're watching this, come on to the show. Let's talk about everything... I have a bias when it comes to Carribbeans because my family is part Carribbean... So, Nicki Minaj I'm biased in your favor."
Candace concluded by sending an open invitation to the rapper, offering to discuss any topic ranging from Hollywood to politics. This video sparked a range of reactions on social media. A user (@tallyohhh) wrote on X:
"I doubt that Nicki would do this, but if she did, it would be a master class in shade. They’re both very intelligent women lol."
Many netizens opposed Owens' invitation and slammed her on the social media platform.
"I really don’t want nicki speaking to this woman… naaa, she smells bad news," an X user wrote.
"All she wants to do is make Cardi B digs, corny. Bye Candace," added a tweet.
"I see the benefit for Candace, but How is this going to help Nicki? This will do nothing positive for Nicki. The only thing it will do is create more drama and more haters," claimed a netizen.
Meanwhile, others expressed their desire to witness the duo in a conversation.
"Ngl I’d be here for this," a netizen tweeted.
"I want this so bad!! Please @NICKIMINAJ," commented another one.
"I would love this as long as she holds the political stuff!" explained a user.
Candace Owens previously supported Nicki Minaj after the rapper's alleged criticism of leftist media
In September 2021, Nicki Minaj became embroiled in an X (then Twitter) feud with MSNBC host Joy Reid after claiming that people should have the liberty to choose whether or not they wanted to get vaccinated. A day later, Candace Owens appeared on Tucker Carlson Tonight and backed the rapper.
While Nicki faced backlash and accusations of spreading misinformation, Candace Owens said:
"These are the people, by the way, that when they’re running, they go around and get [celebrities] to endorse them. They try to get them to speak on behalf of them and Nicki Minaj is not playing that game."
The commentator continued:
"At the end of the day, what they actually think – the Democrats – is that these people are stupid. They like to come around every four years for the votes but at the end of the day, they think Nicki Minaj and all rappers are very stupid. And Nicki Minaj, right now, is proving them otherwise. She’s not afraid."
However, in February 2022, Candace Owens criticized Cardi B during her appearance on Full Send Podcast with The Nelk Boys. Owens called Cardi B "uneducated" for her stance on vaccination, and netizens speculated that Owens' remarks were partly motivated by her open support for Nicki.
As for the current proposal sent by Candace Owens to Nicki Minaj, netizens are waiting to see what happens next.
