Daystar Shemuel Shua Peterson, a.k.a. Tory Lanez, opened up about prison authorities seizing his recording equipment earlier this week. The incarcerated rapper took to Instagram on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, to update his fans that his The Prison Tapes series is discontinued, adding:

"I think it’s important that my fans know the truth about the crooked *ss shit that’s really going on here. My cell was not raided and trashed because I learned how to record myself in prison or because I created The Prison Tapes."

For the uninformed, Tory Lanez is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence for shooting Megan Thee Stallion back in 2020. Since this July, the rapper has been dropping new music under the umbrella of The Prison Tapes. This includes Jack's, like Basement and Appellate Court.

Elaborating on the truth behind the move, he continued:

"I was shut down because the ‘HIGHER UPS’ figured out what I was really doing with The Prison Tapes, and how many inmates were being helped in a life-changing way because of them."

"Put all the proceeds towards the legal representation"- Tory Lanez detailed out his plans to help fellow inmates

In his Instagram post, Tory Lanez explained that since he was incarcerated, he has seen black and other minority inmates being mistreated. He stated that they received the "most cruel, illegal, and unfair punishment/treatment."

The Lady of Namek hitmaker elaborated that he believes he was placed in prison "to witness firsthand the pain in opression" that "young black and brown men and women" suffer. The rapper then detailed his plan, writing

"So, I made a plan that when I got to prison, I would figure out a way to record music and put all the proceeds towards the legal representation of my fellow inmates, giving them a once in a lifetime chance to go home to their families on appeal and resentencing."

Tory Lanez I did that, despite the "higher-ups" trying to stop his plan temporarily, they couldn't stop his "overall plan." He noted that through his efforts he can afford legal representation for 472 inmates, with 476 actively reopened cases, since July.

Lanez also stated that this would be done through collaboration with the legal firm, UNITE THE PEOPLE, adding that he is naming it "The Hands of God Project." He concluded his message by writing:

"Lastly, they know I’m a threat and they don’t want me saying or doing this so if ANYTHING happens to me, just know I went out in the blaze of glory trying to revolutionize the end of a mass incarceration era on our people."

Before authorities seized his recording equipment, the rapper dropped nine songs recorded in prison, along with previously unreleased tracks from the Lost Tapes and Twitch Tapes series. Before releasing the songs, Lanez took to his Instagram to reveal that after trial and error, he and his engineer figured out a way to put together music of professional quality through the prison phone.

Since his incarceration, several fans and fellow artists have spoken out in support of Tory Lanez. This includes Drake, Meek Mill, and Fivio Foreign.

There is no official word if the rapper will face any consequences for his transgression.
