An unreleased video song called Karma's A B*tch by Brit Smith went viral and went viral on TikTok. The clips were released just one day after JoJo Siwa released her new single, Karma, on April 5. For an interview with Page Six, Brit opened up about her resurfaced song. She revealed her shock that her song has a new life.

"It was supposed to be my first single, and just sort of things changed and I went with Provocative instead, and shouldn't have done that really."

The unreleased videos prompted Smith to upload her version on music platforms, which led to controversies around JoJo Siwa's Karma. The 20-year-old denied the controversies and told TMZ she doesn't know who Brit Smith is.

"I didn't steal anything. There's no such thing as stealing – I also don't know who Brit Smith is."

Brit Smith may sound like an unfamiliar name, but she is an American singer, songwriter, and model who was also part of the duo Brit & Alex. After releasing her first single, Provocative, Smith left the music industry. In a conversation with Page Six about her unreleased song Karma's A B*tch, Smith revealed,

"We should have gone with Karma, that was my first choice, but label things got in the way, and I kind of was led in that direction, and we went with Provocative!"

She also explained that the song had originally been written for Miley Cyrus, but she 'passed on it.' As Provocative took the front seat then, Smith never knew that her original song would go viral 12 years after its inception! Smith also credits Timbaland for producing the song and Rock Mafia for introducing the song to her. When the host revealed that some fans love her version of Karma more, she was happy and explained that the song could stand the test of time.

"That's very nice of them to say. I feel it's a testament to how strong the song is! It stood the test of time212 years later. I am just happy that people are hearing it and liking it."

JoJo Siwa reacts to the chaos around her song Karma

In a conversation with TMZ on April 12, JoJo denied that she stole the song from Miley Cyrus or Brit Smith. She reported,

"The background on Karma, honestly, it's an old song. I was pitched it. I loved it, was obsessed with it. I grasped onto it."

This comes in contrast to what Siwa reported on a recent episode of How It Went Down as she described the development of various versions, which began when she turned 18! In a conversation with TMZ, Siwa confirmed that Karma was the brainchild of the producing team Rock Mafia. She explained,

"What happens is, people write songs, and then they just don't do anything with them. And then, a few years later, it makes more sense for another artist."

As of Wednesday afternoon on April 18, Smith's recording of the song, Karma's A B*tch ranks 8 on the US Itunes pop charts, while JoJo Siwa's Karma ranks 89. While fans continue to wonder about the songs' inception, they continue to garner millions of likes and comments. Brit Smith soaks in her renewed popularity, and JoJo Siwa is set to perform her version of Karma for the first time at Miami Beach Pride on Sunday, April 21, 2024.
