Rapper Caresha Romeka Brownlee, better known by her stage name Yung Miami, returned with the second season of her podcast Caresha Please on August 8. For the premiere special edition episode, she handed over the hosting duties to her friend Saucy Santana, who interviewed her.
During their nearly 33-minute-long conversation, Yung Miami opened up about why she did not get “involved” when her former City Girls mate JT was feuding with rapper Cardi B.
“I just felt like that situation was between JT and Cardi,” Caresha noted.
Cardi had accused JT of taking shots at her on her debut solo mixtape, City Cinderella.
The 30-year-old further mentioned that during the beef, Nicki Minaj shared a clip of JT firing off a verse set from Super Freaky Girl (Remix), which further influenced her decision not to engage.
“The song was never mentioned to me. I was never called… I was never given heads up… So, when that situation came on Twitter, and they were arguing about the song, it’s like why insert myself… Like that situation had absolutely nothing to do with me. I got left off… and even knew nothing about it,” Brownlee shared.
In the wake of her now-viral comments, fans of JT and Yung Miami are reacting online. For instance, X user @jaquesmuz took to X and wrote:
Several others joined the debate on the platform, with team JT slamming Yung Miami for being jealous of her friend’s career. They claimed that since she was chosen over JT for a Nicki Minaj feature, she chose not to defend her former associate.
“Caresha basically admitting she didn’t defend JT during her fight with Cardi because she got the Nicki feature before her,” a person wrote.
“Lmao this is soooooo wild that she even said this publicly. Like girl you are telling the whole world you didn’t defend your “home girl” because you didn’t get to be on the super freaky girl remix & Nicki didn’t call you & no one told you about it. Likeeeeee,” one person wrote.
“TBH she should’ve just said ‘It had nothing to do with me and I didn’t wanna get involved’ and left it at that, which is still weird to me being that they were like sisters AND Cardi was talking about both of y’all as a group, but hey what do I know,” another person wrote.
Meanwhile, fans of Yung Miami stood up for her. Many said that JT supporters were just twisting her words and making it appear that she didn’t defend her City Girls mate out of jealousy when she was simply trying to maintain neutrality.
“This what @YungMiami305 was talking ‘bout, y’all literally hear exactly what she say but twist it, like that’s not what she “basically” said at all,” a netizen wrote.
“It wasn’t a City Girls issue, it was a JT issue. So, why would Caresha insert herself in something that was directly directed at JT and what JT did outside of the City Girls?? Not her business so it’s not her problem,” one netizen wrote.
“JT didn't even tell her she was on the feature. Wtf she supposed to defend,” an individual wrote.
“As Caresha mentioned, the situation did not involve her, and she was unaware of the song's release. Therefore, she wisely chose to stay uninvolved,” another individual wrote.
In brief, exploring Caresha’s latest comments on her equation with JT
During Thursday’s debut episode of the sophomore season of the Revolt TV podcast Caresha Please, Yung Miami got candid about her equation with JT. She shared that although she and JT were not on the best terms, she still looked at her like “family.”
“We outgrew each other. Every time we got together it just didn’t hit. She was working on her ish (music). I didn’t know. When we got on stage, that was [basically] the only time we would interact… We were on two different page… We just weren’t connecting,” the Rap Freaks hitmaker noted.
She also clarified that living in two different cities (Los Angeles for JT and Miami for Caresha) did not help their situation. She said that the only time they met was either during performances or while doing interviews. Caresha pointed out that since they weren’t working, there was a dearth of “money” in the City Girls group, which in turn made her “start my own brand.”
Notably, JT and Yung Miami formed the hip-hop girl duo City Girls in Florida in 2017. While they never officially disbanded, they haven’t made music since 2021.
