Jennifer Lopez is excited to embrace singlehood following her divorce from Ben Affleck. In a recent interview with comedian Nikki Glaser for Interview Magazine, Lopez, 55, discussed the lessons she has learned in her journey of self-discovery and the challenges of navigating her new life post-divorce.
The interview, published on October 9, revealed her thoughts on independence, self-empowerment, and her upcoming film Unstoppable.
Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce from Affleck on August 20, marking the end of their two-year marriage. Despite the split, she expressed a positive outlook on being single.
"Now I'm excited when you say you're just going to be on your own" Lopez said. "Yes, I'm not looking for anybody, because everything that I've done over the past 25, 30 years, being in these different challenging situations, what can I do when it's just me flying on my own? What if I’m just free?," she added.
Jennifer Lopez reflects on personal growth and embracing self-sufficiency post-divorce
Jennifer Lopez reflected on the difficulty of fully understanding oneself, a process she described as "a lifelong journey." She emphasized that personal growth never reaches an endpoint and said:
"I think that's what I love about life: that there's no arrival point. There's only getting better and growing if you want to. It's either growing or dying, and I don't want to do the dying part."
Jennifer Lopez admitted that while she thought she had figured it all out, life presented her with new challenges.
"There's times when I thought I figured it out, and then life goes, 'Let's send you another thing and see if you fall for it. Let's see if you really have learned that lesson.' And I hadn't," the popstar reflected.
She further highlighted the importance of being self-sufficient, noting that she had to confront uncomfortable emotions to find happiness within herself.
"When you sit in those feelings and go, 'These things are not going to kill me,' it's like actually, I am capable of joy and happiness all by myself. Being in a relationship doesn't define me," she asserted.
In addition to personal reflections, Jennifer Lopez also spoke about her latest film, Unstoppable, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 7. The biographical sports drama film earned a standing ovation at the festival.
Unstoppable tells the true story of Anthony Robles, a wrestler born with one leg who defied the odds to win an NCAA national championship. Jennifer Lopez portrays Robles' mother, Judy, in the film. Unstoppable is set for release on December 6.
"Yes, I felt great. And being there with Judy Robles, who I play, was beyond. I can’t wait for people to see it," Lopez said about the film's reception at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Despite their divorce, Lopez and Affleck appear to be maintaining an amicable relationship for the sake of their children. The pair were spotted together on September 14, enjoying lunch with four of their five children: Lopez's 16-year-old twins Max and Emme, and Affleck's children 15-year-old Fin and 12-year-old Samuel.
Lopez shares her twins with ex-husband Marc Anthony, while Affleck shares his children with ex-wife Jennifer Garner.
A source close to Jennifer Lopez told People Magazine that the two are focusing on keeping things friendly for their blended family.
"They want to show the kids that things are amicable. There’s still a lot of love," the source said.
As Lopez moves forward with her life, she continues to prioritize self-growth and independence. With Unstoppable set to hit theaters in December, Jennifer Lopez is entering the next phase of her life with optimism, both personally and professionally.
