“Jet skis are the worst” — Tate McRae recalls nearly getting eaten by a whale along with boyfriend Kid Laroi over the summer

Tate McRae shared details about her wild summer adventures while appearing on The Capital Evening Show with Jimmy Hill on Wednesday, October 9. The singer shared that she had a close encounter with a whale during a vacation with her boyfriend, The Kid LAROI. This comes after the duo confirmed their relationship earlier this year.

During the interview, the host stated:

"[There was] a quite scary accident you had over the summer on a jet ski with your boyfriend, The Kid Laroi, where you fell off and nearly got eaten by a whale"

The 21-year-old musician recounted that she and her boyfriend had a dangerous encounter while jet skiing. McRae explained:

“I didn’t realize what I was getting myself into. You know you have trust in your boyfriend, but also jet skis are the worst.”

The Greedy singer revealed that after their jet ski landed them in the water, they found themselves roughly “10 feet away” from a large whale. The Run for the Hills singer added:

“That's so freaky to me, the ocean is just a really freaky thing to me. You’re just in there and it’s black and your toes are dangling and that’s so weird. I got that feeling when we fell in the water and you’re just tingling at the bottom of your feet and you’re like, ‘We could die right now.’”

The Kid LAROI and Tate McRae’s relationship timeline explored following the latter’s interview appearance

The duo began raising eyebrows earlier this year, but they confirmed their relationship in April 2024 after being spotted together numerous times. On January 16, 2024, the pair were seen on a dinner date at Giorgio Baldi in Santa Monica, California, leaving the venue hand in hand.

The following month, the pair attended the 2024 NHL All-Star Game in Toronto together. The same month, they were seen together during the Super Bowl weekend alongside fellow celebrities Justin Bieber and Hailey Bieber.

In April, Tate McRae seemingly addressed her relationship with The Kid LAROI at the 2024 iHeartRadio Music Awards. When Billboard asked her whether she would collaborate with the latter for a song, she covered her face and said, “I don’t know. Yeah, maybe. He’s amazing.”

That same month, LAROI declared during a Dublin concert that his "girlfriend" was at the event. Tate McRae was spotted watching the show backstage and confirmed her presence at the same. The Kid LAROI said:

“I need everybody in here to sing this as loud as they can because my girlfriend’s here tonight, and I don’t want to look lame. If you guys don’t sing this really loud, it’s going to embarrass me.”

In July, the couple made their relationship Instagram official. On Tate McRae’s birthday, LAROI shared a picture of them kissing. He wrote in the Instagram story, “happy 21st birthday you make me better! I love yoooouuu”

The following month, McRae posted a birthday tribute to her boyfriend on Instagram Stories, as he also turned 21.

On August 22, The Kid LAROI and Tate McRae shocked fans by performing together onstage at the latter’s New York City concert. The Kid LAROI said:

“I’m so proud of you, and you have so many people in here that love you. I’m one of them.”

Before dating LAROI, Tate McRae was in a relationship with hockey player Cole Sillinger from 2021 to 2023. LAROI previously dated model Katarina Deme from 2020 to 2023.
