While speaking to The Times of London in an interview published on June 15, Joe Alwyn, 33, opened up about his split from Taylor Swift in April 2023 after a six-year relationship. When asked if he had heard the singer's new album, The Tortured Poets Department (TTPD), which fans speculate includes a song, So Long, London, about the duo, Alwyn said:
"I would hope that anyone and everyone can empathize and understand the difficulties that come with the end of a long, loving, fully committed relationship of over six and a half years. That is a hard thing to navigate."
Although the pair did not reveal details about their relationship, Joe Alwyn was spotted at the Love Story singer's concert in December 2017, and the two were seen together on several occasions after that. News of their split was then reported in 2023.
"I have made my peace with that" — Joe Alwyn sheds light on media attention
While opening up about his relationship and split from Taylor Swift during a recent interview with The Times of London, Joe Alwyn highlighted the "gap between" what is reported and the truth.
"What is unusual and abnormal in this situation is that, one week later, it's suddenly in the public domain and the outside world is able to weigh in," he said.
He also added that something "very real" was thrown into an "unreal space," such as tabloids, press, and social media, and "dissected, speculated on, pulled out of shape beyond recognition."
"And the truth is, to that last point, there is always going to be a gap between what is known and what is said. I have made my peace with that," he continued.
Joe Alwyn also spoke about the duo's decision to keep their relationship private and added that it was never a "commodity." In 2019, the Cruel Summer artist spoke to The Guardian and shed light on the same. She spoke about creating boundaries between her personal and professional life, noting:
"I've learned that if I do, people think it's up for discussion, and our relationship isn't up for discussion."
She added:
"That's where the boundary is, and that's where my life has become manageable. I really want to keep it feeling manageable."
After her split from Alwyn, news about Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce did the rounds online in September 2023. The football player has often been spotted singing along to Swift's songs at her concerts, and she has also made appearances at his games to cheer him on.
