On Monday (September 9), Charlamagne Tha God praised Roc Nation for not selecting Taylor Swift to headline the Super Bowl Halftime Show in New Orleans. Taylor Swift's popularity has skyrocketed in the past two years due to her record-breaking Eras Tour. Charlamagne Tha God expressed his approval of Jay-Z's Roc Nation for deciding in favor of Hip-Hop/R&B performers.

"Just be happy we didn't get Taylor Swift," the host exclaimed in the podcast.

The statement followed the announcement that Roc Nation, Apple Music, and the NFL chose Kendrick Lamar as the headlining act of the Super Bowl LIX halftime show on February 9, 2025.

The discussion also touched on Lil Wayne, a native of New Orleans, not being selected to perform at the Halftime Show. Many high-profile names like Master P and DJ Akademiks have supported Wayne's cause, emphasizing the need to promote local legends in their native places.

Charlamagne Tha God speculated that Drake might blast Roc Nation and Kendrick Lamar with legal notices to stop K Dot from performing Not Like Us during the Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show. In the September 9 episode of The Breakfast Club, Charlamagne Tha God explained:

"If he does ‘Not Like Us’ at the Super Bowl, I want the opening cords and then just the hook,” indicating his anticipation for the performance but also his awareness of the potential backlash."

Charlamagne Tha God continued:

"If you think that the NFL and Roc Nation and a bunch of other people didn't get a whole bunch of legal letters yesterday from people with owls as their stamp. I promise you, you're not calling me a pedophile at the Super Bowl. I guarantee you, the OVO people sent so many legal letters yesterday."

Not Like Us is one of the biggest chartbusters arising from the infamous beef between Drake and Kendrick Lamar. Released on May 4, the diss track premiered less than 20 hours after Kendrick Lamar's previous single, Meet The Grahams.

Not Like Us doubles down on the accusations of pedophilia and s*xual misconduct that were introduced in Meet The Grahams. Kendrick Lamar first performed the song live at The Pop Out: Ken & Friends on June 19, performing the song a total of five times.

Not Like Us spent two non-consecutive weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 and has been lauded by several publications as one of the greatest diss tracks ever made. The track has accumulated a viewership of over 156 million on YouTube in just four months.

This year's performance will be K Dot's second appearance at the Super Bowl Halftime show, following his inclusion in Dr. Dre's 2022 all-star tag team at the halftime show in 2022. Besides Kendrick, the group also had Mary J. Blige, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, and Eminem.

Last year, the Super Bowl Halftime show was headlined by Usher with appearances from Alicia Keys, Ludacris, and H.E.R.
