Beyoncé’s father, Mathew Knowles, recently expressed his disappointment after her country album, Cowboy Carter did not make it to the 2024 CMA Awards. On September 9, 2024, Knowles told TMZ that he was “not entirely surprised" with the nominations:
“There’s more white people in America and unfortunately they don’t vote based on ability and achievements, it’s still sometimes a white and black thing.”
He stated that he was not calling out CMA voters but claimed that Beyoncé’s snub spoke for itself. Adding how the acknowledgement of Cowboy Carter was missing, he noted that it was not a surprise considering the “current state of American culture.” He added:
“In America, there’s no accountability for people not being accepting of other cultures.”
As soon as the statement made by Beyoncé's father made its way on social media, several netizens began reacting to his remark. One social media user commented on a post made by an X account, @PopCrave's account, and said:
“Maybe, just maybe, the music wasn't it. Gave pretty much pop music vibes! But it's also true at the same time.”
Others also criticized Beyoncé’s father for his statement, as the netizens commented:
“It was not a country album. Stop the propaganda and race baiting,” a person said.
“Always playing the race card,” a comment read.
“Nope, I don't agree with it. If the album is good it will automatically reach the audience and get nominated,” a person joked.
As Mathew's words went viral on social media, many users started joking about his statement and asked him to stop making excuses:
“Her daddy on crack, the album sucked. Stop the excuses,” another user exclaimed.
“Is she gonna cry like this when Grammys come around and Taylor wins over her,” another user reacted.
“Just because you think its there doesnt make it true. Just because you think her song was good doesnt mean it is!” a person wrote.
For the unversed, the 58th CMA Awards will be telecasted live on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at 8 PM on ABC. The repeat telecast can be viewed on Hulu.
