Young Thug has a long history of legal problems over the years. Meanwhile, he has been appearing for a trial since November last year which is linked to the RICO charges that were imposed after his arrest back in 2022. The latest updates on the trial say that the new judge Shukura L. Ingram has stepped down from the case.
Ingram was brought in as a replacement for the previous judge, Ural Glanville, who was removed on July 15, 2024. The reason for Glanville's removal was a meeting he organized with the prosecutors and an important witness of the case. However, the defendants were not called to the meeting.
Ingram confirmed her removal in a ruling on July 17 and shated that it happened since her courthouse deputy Akeiba Koren Stanley had a romantic connection to Christian Eppinger, a co-defendant in the case, in the past.
The sheriff's office also revealed that Stanley reportedly met Eppinger in prison and agreed to deliver prohibited items by joining hands with the latter's relative. Notably, Ingram did not mention the name of Stanley in her order and it also says:
"While the Court does not regard the aforementioned situation as creating any actual bias for or against any party to this case, the Court does view this as a matter that could cause a reasonable person to question the Court's impartiality and reasonably give rise to the appearance of impropriety should the Court remain on this case."
While the news of Ingram's removal from Young Thug's case went viral on different platforms, netizens took to the comments section of The Shade Room's Instagram post to share their responses. One of them wrote:
"Just put it on TV and bring in Judge Mathis at this point."
There were similar reactions, with a user writing that Judge Judy would have closed the case in a day. Others were spotted demanding the release of Young Thug.
Shukura Ingram stepped down from Young Thug's case a day after she was assigned
Shukura Ingram began serving at the Fulton County Superior Court in 2018. She was replaced by Ural Glanville on July 16, 2024, for Young Thug's case. Superior Court Judge Rachel R. Krause stated that while Glanville would preside without bias, it was important to maintain public trust in the judicial system.
According to Fulton County's website, Ingram is a member of groups like the Georgia Association for Women Attorneys. She graduated from Clark Atlanta University and earned her Juris Doctor degree from Georgia State University
Young Thug's case is being represented by Brian Steel who was held on charges of contempt and sentenced to 20 days last month. The decision came after Brian did not reveal anything about how he came to know about Glanville's meeting with the prosecutors.
Steel had filed a motion before Glanville's verdict for the latter's removal from the case due to the meeting. Brian's wife Colette Resnik later filed a notice of intent to appeal in response to Steel's sentencing. The Georgia Supreme Court eventually gave a stay order on the matter.
Although Young Thug's trial started last year, it was put on hold in December 2023 after co-defendant Shannon Stillwell was attacked inside prison. The incident emerged as a result of Stillwell's dispute with another individual who was held at the same place near him. The trial continued the following month.
Also known as Jeffrey Lamar Williams, the 32-year-old frequently applied for bail after his arrest in 2022, which has been dismissed every time. Apart from him, RICO charges were also imposed on YSL rappers such as Yak Gotti and Unfoonk.
