According to a Billboard report published on Wednesday, December 4, several producers who were part of Kanye West's Vultures albums have allegedly not been paid. The rapper is reportedly facing legal action after more than ten producers claimed that they worked on the albums, but were yet to be paid.
For those unaware, Vultures 1 dropped on February 10, 2024, and Vultures 2 was officially released on August 3 this year. American hip-hop supergroup ¥$, consisting of Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign have collaboratively released these albums. While speaking to Billboard, music attorney Bob Celestin said:
"We have clients who’ve produced music on the Vultures album(s) and have still not been paid for their services even though both albums have been released."
Celestin added that they had no idea when the team would pay the producers for their work. The attorney continued:
"Presently, we have no idea when payment will be made, which is so unfortunate and unfair. You would think Ye would be more sensitive to this issue because he is a producer."
Attorney Brittney Trigg, who has been representing a producer who was a part of Vultures 1, claimed that getting a producer agreement from Kanye was difficult. As per the Billboard report, about five lawyers are representing producers who worked on Vultures 1, and they have claimed that the process of getting the deserving payment from Ye had been tougher than usual.
Billboard further claimed that there were no signed agreements between Kanye West and the complainants for the two albums. This eventually made it difficult to collect their payments.
Lawyers claimed that suing Kanye West was the only remaining option, however, it would be expensive
As reported by Billboard, the attorneys representing the producers have claimed that there wouldn't be much positive outcome in suing Kanye West. They also claimed that such suits against Ye would be a costly affair. One lawyer told the outlet:
"Legal claims against Ye don’t really seem to go anywhere."
In order to get the payments, a couple of producers even reportedly formed a group to threaten the distributor of the albums. Kanye West, however, changed the distributor and the albums were independently released under the rapper's Yeezy brand.
While these new set of allegations against Ye have surfaced, he was already facing lawsuits by former employees. AllHipHop reported that an ex-security guard accused the rapper of racial bias as well as promoting improper work conditions. The rapper's former project manager sued for alleged discrimination and for creating a hostile work environment.
Former assistant Lauren Pisciotta further sued Ye for alleged wrongful termination and s*xual assault. Lauren reportedly worked for Kanye West from 2021 and 2022. the Daily Mail also reported that according to Pisciotta, Ye had transformed his office into a "s*xual playground."
The former assistant even produced screenshots of chats between Bianca Censori and Ye, in which the rapper allegedly made some inappropriate remarks about Censori's mum.
Outlets have further tried to reach out to Kanye and his team for comments on the latest allegations of the producers not being paid. However, there have been no official statements made by the rapper or his team.
