Kanye West, the rapper now known as Ye, is facing a lawsuit from a former employee who alleged that he was instructed to investigate members of the Kardashian family, including Ye's ex-wife Kim Kardashian. Reportedly, the former employee was also asked to spy on the rapper's wife, Bianca Censori.
The lawsuit, filed on Thursday in Los Angeles, claims that the former employee, referred to as John Doe, was hired in December 2022 and given various tasks that raised ethical and legal concerns.
The lawsuit alleges that John Doe, originally hired as a deputy campaign director, was later assigned the role of "director of intelligence." In this capacity, Doe claims he was directed to conduct investigations on West's legal adversaries and even those closest to him, including the Kardashians.
One of the claims is that West allegedly believed the Kardashian family had ties to criminal enterprises, including s*x trafficking.
"John Doe was also tasked by Ye to investigate the Kardashian family and supposed various criminal links Ye believed they had with criminal enterprises, including alleged s*x trafficking," the lawsuit alleges.
Furthermore, Doe accuses Kanye West of instructing him to hire private investigators to follow Bianca Censori, West’s current wife, during her travels to Australia to visit her family. These actions allegedly constituted part of a broader pattern of surveillance initiated by the West.
Additional Claims of Erratic Behavior by Kanye West
The lawsuit also contains alarming claims regarding Kanye West’s alleged substance use. It is alleged that in May 2024, around the time when West underwent dental surgery to receive $850,000 in titanium teeth, he began using nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas. This, according to Doe, led to increasingly erratic behavior from the rapper.
The accusations about Kanye West's use of nitrous oxide were previously brought up by Milo Yiannopoulos, West’s former chief of staff, in August 2023. Yiannopoulos alleged that West’s dentist, Dr. Thomas Connelly, had supplied the rapper with the substance. While Dr. Connelly denied the claims as "factually incorrect."
Retaliation and Emotional Distress
Doe’s employment allegedly came to an abrupt end after he reported child abuse taking place at West’s Donda Academy, the rapper’s private school. According to the lawsuit, after Doe raised these concerns with the leadership at Yeezy, Kanye West allegedly retaliated by making threatening statements.
In a heated exchange, Kanye West allegedly told Doe, "You're f--king dead to me," and played a recording of "scary voices" that Doe interpreted as a direct threat. The lawsuit claims that the hostile work environment, combined with the unethical activities he was allegedly exposed to, took a toll on Doe's mental health, causing him to suffer panic attacks, anxiety, and other emotional distress.
He ultimately sought medical treatment and was placed in a facility to address these issues.
Legal Action and Claims
John Doe’s lawsuit, filed with the assistance of attorneys Neama Rahmani and Ron Zambrano, seeks damages for retaliation, negligent and intentional infliction of emotional distress, and various labor code violations.
Doe claims he is owed wages for multiple pay periods during which he worked full-time without receiving compensation. He also alleges that his experience working for West triggered his pre-existing PTSD, further worsening his emotional and psychological condition.
Attorney Ron Zambrano, representing Doe, stated, "Our client is so fearful of Ye and his erratic, disturbing and unpredictable behavior that he wishes to remain anonymous for his own safety."
This lawsuit is the latest addition to the growing list of legal challenges for Kanye West, who has faced several lawsuits from former employees in recent years.
According to Zambrano, West’s treatment of his employees has been consistent with a pattern of unethical behavior. He remarked:
"Ye has only himself to blame for his mounting legal woes. He just can’t continue hiring employees, treating them terribly, then refusing to pay them in violation of numerous employment laws, let alone threaten to kill them as he did in this case."
As of now, representatives for Kanye West have not responded to requests for comment regarding the lawsuit.
Kanye West, who married Bianca Censori in December 2022, has also been dealing with divorce rumors in recent weeks. Despite speculation, the couple was recently seen together in Tokyo, seemingly dispelling the separation rumors. Kim Kardashian, West’s former wife, finalized her divorce from the rapper in November 2022, with whom she shares four children.
