During the December 2 episode of The Breakfast Club, Charlamagne Tha God claimed Lil Wayne is not on the same level as Kendrick Lamar and therefore shouldn’t consider competing.
“The reason he don’t want no problem with Kendrick right now is because, uh, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually Lil Wayne is not on the level to get out of Kendrick, ‘cause Kendrick would break down Lil Wayne’s whole life in a very therapeutic way,” Charlamagne shared.
Having said that, Tha God mentioned how objectively speaking, Lil Wayne was among the “top five emcees of all time.” His comments come in the wake of Kendrick Lamar dropping his surprise album, GNX, on November 22.
The Breakfast Club co-host, DJ Envy stated during Monday’s episode that GNX was K-Dot’s way of showing that he was not only “better than Drake” but rather anybody. In response, Charlamagne said, “Kendrick has not been in competition with nobody for a very long time” and reminded that Lamar was a Pulitzer Prize winner.
Lil Wayne seemingly hit back at Kendrick Lamar last month
In his latest album GNX, Kendrick Lamar named Lil Wayne and shared how the latter was reportedly unhappy about Lamar getting the chance to headline the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show in New Orleans. In the opening track, Wacced Out Murals, K-Dot rapped:
"Used to bump Tha Carter III, I held my Rollie chain proud/ Irony, I think my hard work let Lil Wayne down/ Won the Super Bowl and Nas the only one congratulate me/ All these n**gas agitated, I'm just glad they showin' they faces/ Quite frankly, plenty artists, but they outdated/ Old-a*s flows, tryna convince me that you they favorite."
This didn’t sit well with Lil Wayne who took to X on November 23 and claimed that his “kindness” shouldn’t be mistaken as his “weakness.”
“Man, wtf I do?! I just be chillin’ & dey still kome 4 my head. Let’s not take kindness for weakness. Let this giant sleep. I beg u all. No one really wants destruction, not even me but I shall destroy if disturbed. On me. Love,” the now-viral post read.
Notably, in September, Wayne shared his disappointment via Instagram for not being given the opportunity to headline the halftime of Super Bowl LIX on February 9, 2025, at New Orleans’ Caesars Superdome stadium.
"I blame myself for not being mentally prepared for a letdown and for just automatically mentally putting myself in that position. I thought there was nothing better than that spot, that stage, that platform, in my city. So it hurt, it hurt a whole lot," he shared.
Back then, Lil Wayne further explained that while the decision left him temporarily “broken,” his fans helped him cope with their outpouring of love and support. Later, during the 2024 Lil Weezyana Fest in November, he mentioned how it was his dream to perform in front of his mother at the Super Bowl.
However, he added how the festival was special in its own way and it could not be “taken” away from him. Weezy also shared how he worked really hard to reach where he is today.
