British rapper Skepta recently shared his take on the beef between Kendrick Lamar and Drake in a November 8 interview with Ebro Darden on Apple Music. According to Skepta, the much talked about beef that happened earlier this year, wasn't good for rap culture.
During the interview with Darden, the 42-year-old MC, and rapper first spoke about grime culture and the impact of beefs there. He said:
"When I was clashing in grime, we never had nothing to lose...You could call me anything in the world, I am not going to lose a Nike deal...That'd probably get me more money."
He then shared his view on the beef between Kendrick Lamar and Drizzy and said:
"It's hurting what we've built... If you don't like each other just link up and speak & just talk to each other. Or don't speak to each other. But all this stuff you're saying, for the rest of everyone else, who is waiting in line for the doors that you've kicked open, these doors are shutting on us right now. That's why I didn't like that..."
Netizens noted the rapper's reaction and then took to X to express their take on it. A user (@JKCPLTO) wrote:
"He needs to grow up. 99% of rap fans always wanted to see a drake & kendrick clash... They’re both already super rich…Kendrick even got more big deals after the beef 💀."
"Don't nobody give a fawk about a UK Rapper's opinion on American Rap," wrote another user.
"I rate skepta but a clash is very different from US rap beef," added a tweet.
Many other netizens believe that Skepta's friendship with Drake influenced the perspective he expressed during the interview. An X user tweeted:
"Lol Drake is friend so he can’t pinpoint, f*cking goofball. Kendrick wanted to keep purely rap and Drake started to involve his family."
"He's upset cos k dot called his friend a pedo, basically," explained another one.
"Had Drake won the battle he wouldn’t be saying all this," commented a netizen.
"Nowadays, I think it’s bad for business"- Skepta previously stated while sharing his view on Drake and K.Dot's rap beef
In May 2024, when the beef between the two rappers was at its peak, Skepta gave a similar point of view, as reported by The Standard. As per the British rapper, he prefers being busy with his career and focusing on his album and music festivals.
While sharing his take on the beef back then, he said:
"I’m going to stay out of this one. It used to be fun back in the day but now it’s getting a bit serious."
The 42-year-old artist also stated:
"Nowadays, I think it's bad for business. We're too old for that, man… Let the kids argue."
Skepta explained that such beefs and feuds were fine when they were younger and were not weighed down by responsibilities. He further stated that when one has a family to support, these beefs do no good.
Adding to that, Skepta then also mentioned that he had done his fair share of "clashing and battling" already in his youth. His latest interview implied that he still holds the same view on the ongoing beef between Drake and Kendrick that he did earlier this year.
