Kristin Chenoweth was asked by TMZ in New York, on November 11, 2024, if she still kept Diddy in her thoughts. Chenoweth replied that she was "still praying" for the rapper with her final remark being that the case against him was "really bad."
As the Pushing Daisies actress was giving autographs in New York answering questions about her views on the upcoming theatrical adaptation of Wicked and the singer-actresses starring in it, the question about Sean Combs sprung up.
This comes after Chenoweth tweeted back in May, about watching the CCTV footage of Diddy reportedly physically attacking his then-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura. The 56-year-old called it "heartbreaking," and added that she used to love him.
Kristin Chenoweth first tweeted about Diddy in May
The first tweet by Kristen Chenoweth, mentioning Diddy, was made on May 18, 2024, soon after Cassie's alleged assault video had resurfaced on the internet. Chenoweth penned that there was "no excuse" for Combs' alleged actions, no matter what his defense was.
In one of her other tweets that day, the actress stated that she felt "sick" when she first saw it and was "thankful" that Cassie was okay. After calling the Bad Boy Records owner "ill" and "sick", Kristin added that "only God" could forgive him now.
In yet another tweet, Chenoweth stated that she had her reasons why the video was bothering her so much, and added that she needed to "pray for him." She tweeted:
"Honestly i have my reasons for the Sean Combs video bothering me so much. The main thing i need to do is pray for him. For real."
The following day, when a user (@rissaroo311) replied to Kristin's tweet, asking her to "pray for victims' deliverance, not for evil abusers," the actress wrote about her own experience with domestic violence.
Stating that she was deeply injured "physically and spiritually" at the time, Chenoweth added that the only thing she knew was praying after getting out of it, both for herself and the one who allegedly abused her.
In a subsequent tweet, the actress also mentioned that she hadn't forgiven the abuse she went through yet, as it was "beyond" her. The name of her abuser was not revealed by Chenoweth. Meanwhile, the actress tied the knot with her longtime boyfriend, Josh Bryant, last year.
Cassie Ventura's assault video surfaced six months after her federal complaint
While the allegedly leaked assault video that went viral on social media surfaced in May, Diddy's ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, had filed a federal complaint against the Bad Boy for Life rapper six months prior. According to a Vulture report from October 2024, her 35-page-long complaint accused Combs of battery, s**ual assault, and trafficking, among other allegations.
The complaint stated that Ventura joined Diddy's record label when she was 19. Her statement also claimed that the rapper was physically abusive towards her throughout their relationship, adding:
"Mr. Combs asserted complete control over Ms. Ventura’s personal and professional life, thereby ensuring her inability to escape his hold."
Her claims further stated that Diddy demanded she carries a firearm for him in her purse and forced her to engage in s**ual acts with male s*x workers. The complaint claimed that the Victory rapper's employees - including those at his record label - were aware of the abuse.
Cassie Ventura ended her relationship with Diddy in 2018 and started dating her trainer, Alex Fine, whom she married in 2019.
On Saturday, November 9, Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel - the original Broadway cast of Wicked - joined Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo in LA for the premiere of their upcoming movie. According to ABC News, following the event, Chenoweth said:
"I watched it with our 'Wicked' family and I bawled the entire time"
She also said she was "proud" of Grande and that she knew Erivo would be "powerful".
