Fans recently lashed out at rapper NLE Choppa after he declared on X that he never said he was gay. Choppa's post came in response to a fan claiming the rapper said he was gay by sharing a clip from the film A Madea Homecoming.
NLE Choppa's declaration came shortly after he faced backlash online when he revealed that his viral September 6 "coming out" post was a tactic to promote his new single, Or What. On September 6, Choppa first shared two images of him online with the caption:
"I'm coming out ...."
Given the term's association with the LGBTQ community, fans assumed the rapper could be hinting at his sexuality or something related to the LGBTQ community. However, Choppa revealed soon after that he was "coming out" with a new single and said in a follow-up post:
"With New Song (PINNED^) A New Project This Month, and Black Duck Boots. Yall ain’t let me finish “….” 😒"
Finally, Choppa declared on September 8 that he never said he was gay, leading to fans criticizing him for alleged queer baiting. One X user said:
"just let this whole queer baiting thing for clout go"
Some others said that it was "too late" for clarifications now and that they were going to call him gay.
"we gone call you gay since you wanna play so f**kin much," another user added.
"we thought you was… the way you put it," another person chimed in.
"But you're implying that you are...," a fan claimed.
"Its too late," a user joked.
Other fans criticized NLE Choppa for his alleged queer-baiting, while some indicated his explanations aren't enough.
"They don’t care. You are what they say you are. Thats how it works in 2024 unfortunately," an individual opined.
"Bro these triggered gays are calling you a “queer baiter” 😭😭," an X user wrote.
"You knew what your a*s what doing when u put “Im coming out” 😭😭," another user commented.
NLE Choppa spoke in support of the LGBTQ community in the past
Following the release of NLE Choppa's track Slut Me Out 2 earlier this year, fans alleged that the lyrics of the song hinted at the rapper's sexuality. Amid speculation, Choppa took to X to clarify his intentions and wrote:
“I understand me being in love with myself as a BLACKMAN [sic] is so rare to the point that some people try putting the homosexual jacket on my name. But with all due respect, I love ALL, but my intimacy lies with women only.”
In a follow-up X post, NLE Choppa added:
“I’m really here to make a difference and show y’all it’s love/ I was raised to f**k with who f**k with you/ So thank y’all for appreciating my craft.. My music For ALL we do NO Discrimination."
In a September 5 interview with Paper Magazine, NLE Choppa addressed previous speculation about his sexuality and voiced his support for the LGBTQ community. The rapper said he finds it beautiful that people associate him with being a certain way.
“It’s a beautiful thing. Because the amount of people who had something to say is what fuels me to stay deeply rooted in my purpose. The beauty of it is that it gave me an opportunity to say, ‘Oh, y’all feel like I’m this way? Okay, let me give y’all some more reasons to feel that way, even though I know I’m not. Let me show more love to the people that y’all are saying I’m aligned with because we are all humans at the end of the day," he said.
NLE Choppa further voiced his support for the LGBTQ community and their struggle for acceptance in his aforementioned interview. The rapper highlighted that human beings have to fight for acceptance in one form or another, be it for their skin color, weight, or sexuality. However, he stressed that his music is universal, and he preaches acceptance for all.
