The ongoing investigation into Liam Payne's death— which is being conducted in Argentina, where the singer died last month— has ruled suicide out as the cause behind his fall.

According to a Live Mint report published on November 10, 2024, the Argentinian authorities have found the cause behind the former One Direction member's death to be consistent with his autopsy reports— multiple injuries caused by his fall from the hotel room balcony. The autopsy reports also stated that Payne did not have the reflex to protect himself in the fall, which suggests that the singer was either semi-conscious or unconscious at the time.

A toxicology report of the singer's body highlighted that Liam Payne had multiple substances in his system at the time of his death, which could've caused the loss of consciousness. The substances confirmed in the report include "traces of alcohol, cocaine, and a prescribed antidepressant."

Liam Payne's injuries were not a result of self-harm

According to Live Mint, the local prosecutors concluded that Liam Payne's injuries were not a result of self-harm or any external intervention from others. This comes after three suspects were charged in connection with the singer's death.

One of the suspects is believed to have had a working relationship with Payne, and the second one was a staff member at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel, where the singer had been staying at the time of his death. The third is a suspect who is accused of supplying the Both Ways singer with the substances found in his body.

The allegations placed on these suspects include "abandonment of a person followed by death" and "supply and facilitating the use of narcotics". As the investigation is still to close, the suspects are currently under multiple restrictions, including one that prohibits them from leaving Argentina.

The charges involved Liam Payne's death case bear some resemblance to the case of Matthew Perry's death last year, where his personal assistant and a longtime friend were charged with supplying him with ketamine in the FRIENDS actor's final months.

Liam Payne was in Argentina on holiday with girlfriend, Kate Cassidy

Payne traveled to Argentina in late September with his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, for a vacation. The Strip That Down singer's fall occurred on October 16, from the balcony of his hotel room on the third floor. Cassidy had left Argentina two days before the incident and was in Florida when it happened.

A week after Payne's death, Cassidy paid tribute to her boyfriend with an Instagram carousel post of their pictures. Some of them included the couple with the dog, at Disneyland, and a friend's wedding.

In her tribute, Kate called Liam her "best friend" and "the love of my life," saying how the news of his death felt "unreal," with the influencer struggling to wrap her head around "this new reality of not having you here." It further read:

"Liam, you had the kindest soul and the most fun-loving spirit. It feels like I've lost the best part of myself. I can't imagine the day without your laughter and love. You brought so much light into my life."

It continued:

"Liam, I know we'll be together forever, but not in the way we had planned. You'll always be with me. I've gained a guardian angel. I will love you for the rest of my life and beyond, carrying our dreams and memories with me everywhere I go."

Cassidy's Instagram post also had a picture of a crumpled note, supposedly written by Liam Payne, on which the 31-year-old had mentioned his plan to get married to her within a year.
