New details have emerged from the preliminary autopsy report of Liam Payne, shedding light on his final moments before death. On October 16, 2024, the 31-year-old passed away after reportedly falling from a third-floor balcony of the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Bueno Aires, Argentina.
In the afternoon of October 16, the hotel staff reportedly called for emergency services after Payne was spotted "acting erratically in the hotel foyer" and had to be escorted to his room. The CCTV footage from that day also showed Liam Payne in a visibly intoxicated state and creating chaos before the hotel staff intervened.
According to a report by Mirror, the 31-year-old's preliminary autopsy report revealed that he died due to "multiple traumas" following a 40-foot fall that resulted in "internal and external bleeding." As per forensic experts, "the 25 injuries described in the autopsy are compatible with those caused by a fall from a height."
The report also inferred that Liam Payne didn't have "defensive type" wounds and that the injuries were "vital" and caused at the same time. As per Argentine outlet La Nacion, the possibility of involvement of a third party was therefore ruled out.
Liam Payne's autopsy findings match with a prior toxicology report from the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor's Office
The results of Liam Payne's preliminary autopsy were further substantiated by a November 7 report from the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor's Office. As per the toxicology report, traces of alcohol, cocaine, and antidepressants were found in Liam Payne's system.
The officials explained that it wasn't a case of suicide because "in the state he was in, he did not know what he was doing and could not understand it".
Furthermore, the report concluded that Payne didn't assume a "reflexive posture to protect himself" while falling from the balcony. Therefore, it was inferred that the death was caused due to a substance-induced "psychotic episode" and Payne was in a state of "semi- or total unconsciousness" during the fall.
Payne's body was brought to the United Kingdom from Argentina after the investigations were over. It arrived at London's Heathrow Airport on November 7 and his funeral was held at St. Mary's Church in Amersham on November 20.
Liam Payne reportedly took drugs with Argentine waiter Braian Nahuel Paiz days before his death
Three days before his death, Liam Payne was reportedly accused of taking drugs with waiter Braian Nahuel Paiz. The 31-year-old was identified in the prosecution probe after the singer's death and was the second person to speak up about the incident on October 16.
During an interview with journalist Guillermo Panizza (reported by Daily Mail on November 11), Paiz explained the interactions he had with Payne. However, he maintained his stance of never supplying drugs to the One Direction star.
According to the 31-year-old waiter, he first exchanged numbers with Payne at a restaurant in Puerto Madero. On October 2, they met for the first time at the Hyatt hotel in Palermo.
According to Paiz, Payne was already high on drugs that night and spent his time showing his new music to the waiter. Although he didn't eat anything, they allegedly had some whiskey shots that night.
"There was a moment when he approached me and asked me for my contact details. I gave him an Instagram and afterwards he sent me messages because he wanted to take drugs although he had already consumed narcotics," Paiz added.
Three days before Liam Payne's death, Paiz reportedly met him again. According to him, the two consumed drugs together and got intimate.
"We spent the night together, we consumed drugs because the truth is that something intimate happened. He wasn't aggressive at all, he behaved really well with me, he was really sweet. He asked me if I was okay. I've got all the messages where we arranged that second meeting. I haven't erased anything," he said in the interview.
After the night, Payne allegedly wanted to give Paiz money and clothes as memorabilia for the day but the waiter allegedly declined the offer. Paiz also recalled the last time he met the One Direction member, narrating how he made his 'best friend' meet him.
According to the waiter, Liam Payne implored the two to come to his hotel room but the 31-year-old declined because his shift was about to start shortly. Thereafter, Liam Payne left in a cab. It was allegedly the last time he saw Payne before his death.
As per reports, Braian Nahuel Paiz was fired from his job shortly after his name came up in the investigation probe.
