Remembering Liam Payne as One Direction members reportedly reuniting for his memorial
As mentioned, on Wednesday, news emerged that Liam Payne's family is preparing for his final rituals at a private funeral. According to Radar Online, former One Direction members are expected to reunite to honor their friend with a heartfelt tribute.
Reports suggest they may consider a tribute similar in spirit to Elton John's moving Candle in the Wind performance at Princess Diana's funeral.
However, as per Radar Online, the former bandmates have not yet confirmed if they will perform or if they will opt to pay their respects alongside other guests quietly —
"But they are yet to send word of a musical farewell to their close pal and may opt to pay their respects alongside other members of the congregation," an insider told Radar Online.
According to the BBC, singer Liam Payne tragically passed away after falling from the third-floor balcony of his hotel room at Casa Sur Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, with his cause of death attributed to excessive bleeding.
An autopsy confirmed that Payne suffered both internal and external bleeding, along with multiple traumatic injuries from the fall.
Moreover, according to Bristol Post Live, the reports suggested that Payne accidentally fell after fainting, and an initial toxicology test showed traces of the designer drug pink cocaine in his system.
Additionally, AP News reported that Payne had traveled to Argentina to attend Niall Horan's concert in Buenos Aires on October 2, 2024, along with his partner, Kate Cassidy, who returned to Florida after the concert.
In addition, on October 18, 2024, Payne's father, Geoff Payne, flew to Argentina to take the son's body for the final rituals. However, upon reaching, he was told that the repatriation process would take four to five days.
Moreover, Liam Payne's body was moved from a Buenos Aires morgue to the historic British Cemetery in the northern part of the Argentinian capital for the repatriation process. A statement from the cemetery reads —
"All the documents are ready for the former One Direction singer to return to his homeland so a funeral can take place there next week. When Geoff Payne reached Argentina on October 18, he was told the repatriation process could take between four and five days," the document stated.
According to the Birmingham Mail, the arrangements for Liam Payne's funeral have been finalized, and his body is expected to be flown to the United Kingdom later this week. Reports indicate that the body will be handed over to his father, Geoff Payne, as the paperwork for the transfer has been completed.
The funeral is expected to be attended by A-list celebrities, reflecting the love and admiration Liam received throughout his life. His final resting place will be near a large cathedral.
Sources confirmed to Radar Online that Payne's family intends to keep the funeral "low-key and respectful," with possibly a few of Liam's favorite songs, as he remained passionate about music until his passing. The exact date of the funeral has not yet been disclosed.
Liam Payne and the rest of One Direction announced the band's hiatus in 2016. However, the singer did not officially "leave" the band. One Direction took a break after completing their On the Road Again tour, and the members pursued solo projects.
