Liam Payne's girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, penned a touching tribute, days after the former One Direction member passed away. The British singer was found dead at CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina on October 16, 2024, after falling from the balcony of his hotel room.
Partial autopsy reports, cited by ABC News, noted that the former boyband member had several drugs in his system when he died. It includes crack, cocaine, a depressant called benzodiazepine, and the recreational drug, pink cocaine. His body will remain in Argentina till the full autopsy reports are completed.
Days following his death, Kate Cassidy took to her Instagram page to share a carousel of pictures of her and Liam Payne throughout their relationship. Amongst those pictures is a handwritten note from the singer. The 31-year-old reportedly wrote the note weeks before he died.
"I keep your note close, even though you told me not to look at it. It said, "Me and Kate to marry within a year/engaged & together forever 444," Cassidy said in her tribute.
She also gushed about the late singer in the message, saying that he "brought so much light" into her life. Cassidy also recalled having a heart-to-heart talk with Payne just a few weeks ago, where they were sitting outside one evening and "manifesting [their] lives together."
Kate Cassidy was reportedly with the singer in Buenos Aires but had gone home days before Payne's fatal fall. He was allegedly in the Argentinian capital to watch his former One Direction mate, Niall Horan's concert.
Kate Cassidy remembers Liam Payne for bringing "so much happiness and positivity" to people around him
Liam Payne and Kate Cassidy have been dating since October 2022 and remained in a relationship until the singer's death, despite breakup rumors in 2023. In her statement after Liam Payne's passing, Kate Cassidy opened up about feeling shattered without the singer. She wrote:
"I don't even know where to begin. My heart is shattered in ways I can't put into words. I wish you could see the huge impact you've had on the world, even as it feels so dark right now. You brought so much happiness to and positivity to everyone—millions of fans, your family, friends, and especially me."
In the message addressed to Payne, she reminded him that he is "so incredibly loved." She called him her best friend and the love of her life. Cassidy further remembered the impact the late singer brought to the people around him, adding:
"Your energy was contagious, lighting up every room you walked into."
She reflected on Liam Payne having the "kindest soul and the most fun-loving spirit." Talking about the singer's passing, she said that it still doesn't feel real and that she's struggling to wrap her head around the fact that he's gone and won't be coming back.
Cassidy also noted that she would love the singer for the "rest of [her] life and beyond," before adding that his memories will forever follow her wherever she goes.
Argentina's public prosecution that is investigating the case of Liam Payne's death said that the autopsy concluded that his injury was "consistent" with falling from a three-story hotel window. They have reportedly ruled out any foul play in his passing. Authorities are still trying to figure out who sold the former One Direction singer the drugs he took at the hotel.
