How and when did Jacksonville rapper Julio Foolio die?
Julio Foolio, originally called Charles Jones, was shot dead on June 23, 24, in the parking lot of a resort called Holiday Inn in Tampa, Florida. The Jacksonville-based rapper was celebrating his 26th birthday the night before he was shot in an Air BNB near the resort.
Late during the night on June 22, Foolio took to Instagram to tell his fans that he and his companions were thrown out of the Airbnb for allegedly breaking property rules and exceeding occupancy limits. The rapper's attorney, Lewis Fusco, also confirmed the same in his official statement.
"Mr. Jones had been in Tampa to celebrate his birthday over the weekend. Law enforcement reports indicate that he initially stayed at an Airbnb but was asked to leave due to exceeding occupancy limits. He subsequently relocated to the Holiday Inn, where he was involved in an incident in the hotel parking lot and reportedly ambushed," Fusco said.
The rapper reportedly shifted to Holiday Inn shortly after he left the Airbnb and was shot during the early hours of June 23. Three others were left injured, while only Jones succumbed to his gunshot wounds. According to Tampa police, they received news of the shooting a few hours before sunrise.
On reaching the scene, Tampa police found the two vehicles with gunshot marks in the Holiday Inn parking lot. Foolio was declared dead on sight, while the other three who were injured were rushed to a nearby hospital and later recovered from their wounds.
Lewis Gusco, Foolio's lawyer, said in an official statement:
"While these events involving our client, Mr. Charles Jones, have been disclosed by law enforcement, we are unable to provide further comments at this time until additional details become public record. We kindly request that the privacy of Mr. Jones and his family be respected during this difficult time."
Before his death, Foolio was reportedly involved in Jacksonville gang wars and violence with a rival group led by rapper Yungeen Ace. Julio was a part of the gang KTA (Kill Them All), which had a decade-long feud with Ace's gang, ATK (Ace's Top Killers).
The feud between KTA and ATK reportedly led to multiple shootings over the years and the death of several gang members. Shortly after Foolio's death, Yungeen Ace released a new song titled Do It, allegedly alluding to the rapper's death.
The visuals featured masked individuals mowing a man in the middle of a parking lot, which bore an uncanny resemblance to the circumstances of Foolio's murder. However, his lyrics did not explicitly mention the KTA rapper.
