Bradford Cohen, rapper Kodak Black's lawyer, claimed Lil Durk may have been trying to check if there was a warrant out for his arrest. The lawyer claimed that Durk reportedly booked three international flights departing the US on the day of his arrest on October 24, 2024. The FBI alleged that Lil Durk was trying to flee the country when they apprehended him at the Miami airport.
Cohen made the assumption during his appearance on the Law & Crime Network on YouTube on October 29, 2024. He said that it was unusual that Durk had "so many flights booked."
"I don't make much of whether or not he was going to escape and flee the country. I think more than likely and sometimes this happens. it's unusual that there were so many [flights] booked. What's not unusual is sometimes, where, an individual doesn't know whether or not there's a warrant out for their arrest," Bradford added.
He went on to say that he had seen similar situations in the past when some people were arrested after booking an international flight. He said that people often did so in an attempt to see if there was a warrant out for their arrest. The lawyer explained that since the arrest warrants aren't public knowledge, people often book an international flight which "will red flag them."
Lil Durk was arrested last week on "murder-for-hire" charges for allegedly conspiring a plan to kill Quando Rondo. Rondo was supposedly the intended target during a 2022 shootout in LA, which resulted in the death of his cousin Lul Pab.
Authorities alleged the incident was a supposed revenge plan against Rondo for King Von's death in 2020. Von was killed in a shootout after an altercation between his gang and Rondo's in Atlanta.
Lil Durk had flights to Switzerland, Dubai, and Italy on October 24
According to HipHop DX, Lil Durk had allegedly booked three international flights departing on the day he was apprehended. FBI Special Agent Sarah Corcoran claimed in an affidavit that Lil Durk had booked two one-way trips from Miami to Dubai and from Fort Lauderdale to Switzerland departing on October 24, 2024.
The Special Agent said that the Federal agency received notifications from US Customs and Border Protection that showed that the rapper had booked two international flights.
One of these was a one-way flight from Miami to Dubai and connected through Doha, Qatar. The flight was scheduled to leave on the evening of October 24, 2024. Meanwhile, his second flight was also a one-way ticket from Fort Lauderdale to Switzerland with a connection in New Jersey. This flight was also booked to fly out of the US on the evening of October 24, 2024.
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection reportedly informed the FBI that Lil Durk had booked a seat on a private plane from Miami to Italy scheduled for departure at 9 pm local time. The rapper was apprehended an hour before the flight was supposed to depart.
During his interview on the Law & Crime Network, Bradford claimed it was unusual for Lil Durk to book flights to countries with an extradition policy with the US. He added that it would have been more plausible if Durk had booked a one-way trip to Vietnam, Morocco, or other countries that don't extradite with the US if he wanted to flee the country.
"All the countries that he has, Dubai is gonna extradite you, Switzerland is gonna extradite. These countries are going to extradite. The only places that don't extradite, you go to Vietnam, you go to Morocco," Cohen said.
Bradford Cohen is a criminal defense lawyer whose repertoire includes high-profile clients such as Kodak Black, Drake, and Travis Scott.
Lil Durk's arrest in Miami came after five of his associates from his Only The Family group were apprehended in Chicago for the the murder of Lul Pab. Durk is currently detained at a Broward County jail.
